Hi!

I need to fill up on belts and this one caught my eye. I grind both pre and post HT. RWL 34, AEB-L and 14C28N. My technique is on the lighter pressure side. So this one should suit me.. I have used a lot of the red VSM but find the backing too stiff and they are cut and jointed a bit sloppy so wobble too much,
3M and Klingspor have been much better in that perspective. Any other suggestions from 3M and Klingspor are also welcome!

Haven't heard of the 784f...I use the 984f all the time and love it - generally use lower pressure, low speed.

This is an informative overview of the 3M belts.

I've tried most of the 3M belts over the years. And I always come back to the 984. The catch is that they're pretty pricey. The 784 works great, but won't last as long as the 984. If you grind with very low pressure I would probably recommend the 784 as the 984 might glace in that scenario.

I profile and grind bevels at pretty high speed and pressure though, so the 984 fits me perfect.

Good info. I would try some of the 784 but not sure where to get some, they aren't carried at my normal supply places. 984 works really well for me, but the 120 grit belts tend to cup towards me after getting wet which is really annoying.

edit: found a case on amazon for a REALLY good price $3.40 USD /belt but don't wanna blow $200 for a case if I'm not sure I'll like them haha

Thanks for your replies! I will pick up 984F in 36 and 60 grit and a mix of 984F and 784F in 120 grit I think. And a bunch of gators. And scotch brites, I need to try those. And some scalloped belts. Belt Bonanza..

Interested to see what you find out.
I'll post back here once I have tried them. It will be a little while, I am in the middle of some kiln repair and waiting to get my hardness tester set up and figured out. So kind of a temporary hold up in "production" right now.
