That's the question. Are any of our Utah or Surrounding states Khukuri nuts up for a Konvention in Utah? Possbly a camp out.

Am thinking something along the lines of a Friday and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday in mid to late March, April, or May when it's warmer and we can do things out side.

Durring the little get together in Salt Lake, some one mentioned camping. I think it would be a lot of fun. Any one else like the idea?

If there are people intersted, please post with ideas. Thanks,

Heber

Edit ------

So far here is what we have (Name - Location):

Dan (Vampire Hunter D) - Maple Canyon
Heber (My self) - Maple Canyon
Lance (my old room mate) - Maple Canyon
Mike (Mad Mike) - Maple Canyon

Let's get some more people and idea's.:)

Heber,
Sounds good to me! Where were you planning on having this little get together! If we waited for warmer weather we might be able to go to the mountains?
Mike

Anything's possible, Heber, but Salt Lake is two days drive from here.

And the only way I'm ever hitting the ski slopes with snow and people on them is in the form of ashes- presuming my Wife decided to skip throwing them into the Mojave desert per my request. She was on her way there, honest, and saw the snow on the tops of the Rockies travling through Utah, and thought a quick jaunt sounded fun. While there she was looking around, and decided one uniform surface much like another and dropped the ashes from the Lift.

Ah, the last remains of munk will polish the bottom of some yuppie's skis. Useful even in death:)

Heber, I'd love to attend, but I think Utah is just too far away for my busy schedule.
--Josh

Who am I kidding? Why carry them to Utah? She'll be 3 minutes down the road, pull over, tip the Urn out in the ditch, wipe her hands and drive, with a modicum of sobriety, slowly away.

I once found a burial site in the Sagauro Cactus Mon. in AZ. Little circle of rocks, a pile of ash with small bone fragments, a stuffed animal, good-bye letter, and small bottle of whiskey- that awful stuff imported from Canada for Hoary nights with a poem snippet on the lable, by Service, I think.

I knew if I reported this to the Rangers there'd be a Bureacratic mess- The Feds and all- and if someone hadn't obviously cared so much I might have. ( Just to make them jump; a wee bit evil on my part, I know.)

Though I hadn't drank at that time for over 14 years it was tempting to imagine tipping the bottle empty. But I left that duty for the next hiker. This site was only a few hundred yards from the road. As far as his Grandma and Girlfriend could go- or as far as any of them ever made it after drinking the Candadian whiskey.

Soon there will be HI khuk khons everywhere! Asia and Europe, yer next, then South America, the Phillipines, Oz...

Go!!

Heber,

You know I'm in. I'll be going back to Indiana for the first time in three years from April 8-23. Other than that I'm open. Camping sounds good to me, but if that falls through I might be able to get the log cabin here on base. It might be tuff with all of you guys being civilians. Hey Rusty and Uncle Bill, any chance you could make an apperance?

Warmer weather is a must for the Mountains. What do you think of Late March, April or May? I know of a few places in Central Utah you can get to in a car that time of year. More on that later

Personally, I think we should have food. I've got the gear and equipment so I can cook Dutch Oven and or BBQ. Plus I've been cooking for scout troops and Clubs for a long time. If everyone pitched in a few bucks we could have our selves a nice feast and no one would be out much.

Also, would anyone want to do some Camping and or Hiking?

Dan, looks like you posted while I was.

Will add you to the list.:) Will keep those dates in mind and see what we can come up with.

Can you tell us about this Log Cabin? I too would love to go camping. Do you think your wife and daughter would come?

---------------

Below are 2 places in Sanpete County that I really like and that we can get to with cars.

Maple Canyon: Maple Canyon is world Famous for Rock climbing. It is part of the Manti-Lasal Nation Forest and located about 6 miles east of Moroni. In the canyon there are Camp sites with Tables, fire rings and BBQ stands. It also has bathrooms.

Maple is Accesible year round which is nice. I've taken the Snow College Outdoors Club there a bunch of times, Gone there with my Backpacking class and taken my old Scout Troup there once. If you are a Rock Climber, this is the place for you. There are also great hiking trails. IIRC you can bicycle some of them. It's just a wonderfull place to camp/hike and enjoy nature.

Note Reservations are needed for all campsites accept for the unimproved sites. Also, there is a fee.

Here are a few links to info and pics of Maple Canyon. Link 1, Link 2 and Link 3.

Spring City Camp Ground:

Located about 4 to 6 miles up the Beautiful Spring City Canyon and also part of the Manti-Lasal Nation forest. It is accesible from about Mid April to Late October depending on snow fall. This site has running water (purify before drinking), bathrooms, Camping sites with Tables, Fire pits and BBQ stands. Along with a number of trail heads, a few springs and a creak running threw it.

I've also taken the Outdoor Club and my old Scout troop here many times. This is one of the Clubs top camping spots. There are a number of good unimproved sites up there too. There are no fees and also you don't need reservations.:)

Both Camp grounds are about 2 to 2.5 hours from SLC but IMO well worth the trip. I know that's quite a ways for some, so if you have other ideas please make them know.

Well the log cabin is just that. It overlooks the pond area on the base and the whole Salt Lake Valley. It's about 30' x 20' with ample parking outside and a deck. If I remember right there is also a fire place. Its availible for military members to use for free, I think. I'll call around tomorrow and get specifics. I'll also check and see if I can even bring you guys on to a federal installation. The camping sites sound good, my vote goes for Maple Canyon. Its a little far for me, but I think I can manage. My wife and daughter would not be coming, I think Angie is a little young. But thanks for asking.

That Cabin sounds interesting. Please keep us posted.:) I'll put your name by Maple.

What do you all think about food? And also Activities? What food should we fix/bring and what do you think we should plan on doing? Aside from the showing off of knives and eating?

If we do it up one of the canyons, we can do some wood chopping and hiking/rock climbing. My old Room mate Lance wants to come too and has a pickup so he could bring a bunch of fire wood.

As far as Food, Dutch Oven? BBQ? Breakfasts dinners? What would you want? Aside from Pork (I'm alergic to it) I'm good with just about anything.

------

If we do a campout, do people have Tents or even want them? I don't have a good tent so I normally just hand a tarp between 2 trees.

Aside from Pork (I'm alergic to it)

Shame...you can't ever visit Congress, eh? :D

Tell you what...If you happen to pick a time when I am TDY to Hill, I'll be there too...just odds for that, but good intentions!

Heber - One of the prerequisites to the meeting would have to be a safety lecture, instructions to the nearest Hospital, standby transportation, helio standby, First Aid Class.:)

Other option: You would leave your sharp thingys home and not borrow anyone elses. :D

Just in fun Heber. Couldn't resist........

Heber,
Maple Canyon sounds fine to me. When it come to chow I'm not picky.("Uncle Sugar" saw to that) Just let me know if you want me to pitch in toward the grub, camp site fees, or if you want me to bring something(drinks, condiments, both etc...)
I'm afraid you'll probably have to provide a map later if we do decide this is where we're going, becuase I've never been there before.
Also is it okay to bring friends? There may be a couple of friends of mine who might be interested in coming. (But I'm not sure)

Mike, I've added you to the list. Bring your friends, the more the merrier.:) How many people do you think would be coming with you?

The food shouldn't cost much, but any help would be great.;) When I get a final head count I'll figure out the cost of food and will let you know. For dinner how does Dutch Oven Chicken stew, Salad and roles sound with possibly a Cobbler for desert? For snack food we could have Chips and Dip, Soda and a Veggie tray. Anyone have breakfast ideas?

If we do deside on Maple Canyon for sure, I'll be sure to get everyone a map and directions. Wouldn't want people coming all that way just to get lost amoung the Turkey Sheds.;) lol

Hee hee hee! :D

Knowing where the hospitals and how to contact Emergancy personal is always a good idea. The Mount Pleasant Hospital isn't that far away. Plus I'll have 2 first aid kits with me. A Pocket sized on and a larger one. I know it was in fun, but still, thanks for bringing it up.;)

Leaving my knives at home would just be wrong, Sick and wrong. How dare you even mention it.:eek: ;) he he he :D

Here are directions to Maple Canyon and a map (Map borrowed from Utah's home page):

price_richfield.jpg

To reach Maple Canyon drive south on I-15 until you reach Nephi. Turn left at the Nebo Loop exit. Continue on SR132 to Fountain Green. In Fountain Green you'll see a sign labeled "Maple Canyon" on your right. Follow the road until you see an other sign labeled "Maple Canyon" where several houses are clumped. You drive up a dirt road to the obvious canyon. In the winter it is probably best to park at the mouth rather than create a bottleneck up the canyon.

Directions from ClimbingSource.com.

The cabin is $25 for a half day, either day or night and of course $50 for the full day. Alcohol is allowed and I shouldn't have a problem getting anyone on base. It'll just take a while to get through the gate. What ever is decided is cool with me. I just thought I'd bring this up in case of bad weather, or if people don't want to spend a night in the woods.

Thanks for the info. Like you said, the Cabin might be a good idea. What kind of cooking and sleeping accomadations does the cabin have?
