I saw that youtube reviewer RoscoeBA ran her new Maxpedition messenger bag thru the washing machine. I am considering doing that with a used Remora that I have headed my way, and then allow it to air dry.

Have any of you cats done this?

thanks

I did,

Watch you don't get anything caught on the agitator. It ripped mine, not too bad, but just check.

I would just handwash it and not risk ruining it. Use warm water and maybe a little Dawn
or clothes detergent in a bucket. Let it soak in there for maybe a half hour, rinse it good with cold water a couple times and hang it up to dry somplace. That's what I do with most of my stuff. Good luck!

I second this.

If it's real bad use an old toothbrush with some dawn , I prefer hot water , it's not going to shrink afterall :)

They tend to dry fast and look good as new afterwards.

When I have a pack that needs washed I stuff it in an old pillow case, tie the top shut and wash. It seems to keeps things from getting tangled up and haven’t had any of my bags tear doing it that way. I like woolite dark for detergent and line dry, they seem to dry best hung up side down, open things up as much as possible. I probably wash more than necessary, but part of my job is in ceramics and metals studios so my bags are always getting clay dust, glaze, precious/semi-precious metal dust, sanding swarf and other junk on them, when ever it starts to look bad or bother me, into the wash they go.

I have used the pillow case method and never had a problem. I've done packs and my Maxpedition stuff.

And I third it. Whenever I'd come back especially nasty I'd just walk right into the shower with everything on. Hose, shower, sink, whatever, just don't toy with the idea of using a washing machine as it probably will cause issues in the end.

if yer gonna wash the maxped bags, wash in the tub and then hang up to dry. The machine can grab the straps and twist them off

I've washed packs in the washing machine a few times but it was a front loader, I wouldn' t use a top loader

Either hand wash in tub or use my method-place the item in an old nylon postal sack and zip-tie the end and machine wash on cool. The bag is porous and prevents the straps getting caught-up.This is also advisabale at airports as straps can catch in baggage handling equipment.

Pillow case is the way to go. Unless you also have a stuff/compression sack that needs washing at the same time. Then you can just stuff it in there and kill two birds with one washing machine.

Use cold water though. It won't shrink in hot water but it can warp some things from time to time.

I've washed all of my Max. gear in the washer stuffed in a pillow case as stated previously. It works well and doesn't tear it up.
