I have been cracking up1 No one on this show know how to use a Magnesuim Match. They keep just beating it against their Machete's and after a while some get lucky and get a fire started. You would think that if you are taking part in such a thing, you would at least study about Survival and learn some skills. One guy broke his M-Match last night and did not get a fire started. I was laughing so hard like where did these people come from.

Yeah, I still get addicted to this stupid show.

I had to laugh last night at the magnesium match also. Last week, one of the "older women" tribe is a "lumber-jill" in real life. She actually started a fire pretty fast with it. Of course they voted her off first, then last night couldn't hardly get a fire going again.

Vote of the only one with outdoor experience first....smaaaaarrrrtttt!

I have to admit that I watch it occasionally too.

I didn't catch last nights episode, but last week, I was expecting the mens group to chop off a finger using the mag block & machete.

I love how they hack away on their fire steel with the machete, like chopping harder on it will get the fire started sooner.

I just find it kinda sad that a person would go on that show without doing any research or training at all! You have to wonder if any of 'em have even watched the show before!

You could probably pick four folks at random off this forum and they would have a fire lit, a shelter built and food cooking before the camera crew could get set up!

And what about the goober who smoked three packs of cigarettes a day right up to show time!? Watching him fall apart is really going to be great fun.

Yeah I thought brillent idea get rid of the person who can start a fire and caught a fish and keep the 300pound chick that will drag you down on physical challenges and was afraid of the bush. It has happened every time the person that knows how to do anything survival related gets booted. Did you see the dumb chick that launched the fish spear into the ocean and lost it.

IIRC it seems that I read a post on one of the forums several years ago about the poster's cousin interviewing for "Survivor" and being rejected because he actually knew some survival skills. FWIW
Gene :D

I'm not ashamed to say that I really enjoy the show.
I think that you have to look at the show from a different perspective:
It's not really about wilderness survival as much as it's about group dynamics and the way social bonds work.
And I think that could be a very important aspect in group survival situations.

It has been one of my most watched television shows! I actually look forward for the next series when one ends. Misty makes watching even better!!!!!!!!!

According to a magazine article, he is a survival instructor among other things.

As long as there are bikinis and beaches, there will be an audience(me included:thumbup: ). I don't think the show would do well in colder environments as the silicone might freeze...

I've watched all of them. Not for any survival info or technique because there is NONE. I mean, you think these people would at least have the forsight to read a book on survival, learn a few basics. It would make them more valuable to the other members. I love how they wail on the mag/flint bar! The one dude broke it, then slept out in the puring rain with no fire!

It amazes me through all the shows that none of them use fish trapping techniques, either tidal or stream/river based.

Let them starve.

I thought the same thing when the women found the fish after a tide came in, If they only knew some techniques how much easier would there life be but as we all know that is not what the show is about.

I think we need a show of Survival Instructors dropped off in the middle of no where with only their Ind Survival Kit and a Knife for say 30 days and see who is really good. We can have Ron Hood and Les Stroud and Mel Deweese out there and see who fairs best.
