I usually whittle with a large stockman or half congress pattern. Lately I've been searching for, with little luck, a #15 main sheepsfoot/secondary pen to purchase. I was wondering if any of you fine folks use one for light carving/whittling? If so, do you find the size sufficient for a comfortable grip over extended periods of time? I know this is a somewhat subjective question but I don't have anything in the #15 pattern and would appreciate any input in case I'm fortunate enough to ever find one available. Thank you in advance and best regards.

As you say it's a pretty subjective question because everyone's hands are different, nevertheless the #15 sheepfoot would have 2 big disadvantages IMO
- the main blade's spine will dig in the fingers like crazy on the push cuts
- the somewhat squarish bolsters will dig in the index finger in the pull cuts
I began with a case 6318, then a GEC courthouse whittler in ebony until it went down a hole in my pocket, and now it's been 2 years with the little clip on the case 6383, best blade to carve I've found on a pocket knife.

Hope it helps

I have no input on whittling with a #15, as the majority of the whittling I've done in my life was as a kid, and was limited to shaving the bark off of a piece of wood for the heck of it. Just wanted to say nice carvings, lutejones! I like the old man with the beard! (Gandalf?)
