Anyone who can convert a tip-down Kershaw to tip-up carry?

Hi forum,

My Kershaw Scallion 1620H3 has had a favorable spot in my EDC rotation for a while yet it is the one and only knife I have that is tip-down carry which I will probably never get used to. I otherwise love the knife & it's one of my fave assisted-openers that I'm allowed to carry in the state of MA (2.5" blade limit). So I was wondering if there was anyone who would be able to flip the pocket clip which would probably involve taking it apart, drilling new holes in the aluminum scales then re-assembling it. If this is actually even practically feasible w/o ruining the knife I would appreciate any recommendations.

I know this isn't an expensive knife by any means so if doing something is kind of a big deal, please let me know. Thanks to any responses in advance!

I am not too familiar with that knife off hand, but if it has aluminum scales you should be able to just drill and tap the scale for the same screws. Maybe $10 in a drill bit and tap, use a good drill press, borrow a tap handle if you don't have one. The torx driver set to take the knife apart is like $5 at lowes. You can do it yourself real easy. I have modded many knives and this shouldn't be anything anyone with some sort of tool-sense can't do.

Thank you for your comment Xander! Doesn't sound too bad. I will definitely buy a torx driver set. I've never modded a knife in any way before (which reminds me I need to buy some sharpening equipment & learn how to sharpen my own knives) & don't really have much in the way of tools (apart from my Leatherman multi-tools). So I think I may have someone else do this one for me, if anyone who could do something like this easily wants, just shoot me an e-mail & let me know how much you'll do it for. I'll take care of shipping to you & back.

Still no need, in my mind, to ship it off. The only special tools would be a drill press to make sure the holes are straight. This is the driver set you need to maintain any knife you own with Torx head screws...

I would offer to do it for you, but there are so many people close to you that can. I really think you should do this yourself, you will feel better doing it and you will learn how to ake your knife apart for maintenance.

Also, ill say this before a moderator steps in, you may want to check out the services wanted section of the site. You should be able to find someone there.

Oh and I just noticed, that factory clip is arched to match the shape of the knife. If you flip it around to the other end it will curve against the shape of the knife. See what I am talking about? It will still be functional, but not as nice looking, in my opinion.

Thanks again for your reply. Think I'll give it a try then. Yeah I'd noticed that too but after using it for a while it's just gotten to be a bit of a pet peeve, mostly when putting it away after using it & naturally attempting to slide it on my pocket like all my other tip-ups, realizing this is the exception, then rotating & re-slipping on. I'm def thinking function over form on this one. Only thing is I hope I can reattach it as firmly as it is now as Kershaw always does great jobs with their pocket clips. Anyways looks like it could be a fun little project!

I just bought a universal, adhesive clip for one of my folders. It is (was?) made by Nite Ize and is called eCLIPse. I can't find it on their website. I bought it at Lee Valley for $10. If this one works well, I'll probably order another 5 for other knives and things.
