Anyone willing to do some milling?

Hey, All,

I have some milling that needs to get done on a couple of projects, but I have no access to a mill. I don't do enough yet to justify spending the money to go out and buy a mill, and most of it I've been doing on my drill-press. There's just a couple of things that I feel like I need the precision of a real mill for.

So, anybody willing to squeeze some milling into their busy schedule for me? I'll pay or trade for the favour, so it's not a total loss to you, of course! :D

Lemme know, or drop me an email, if you're interested. Thanks!

I have a fully stocked machine shop (engine lathe, vertical mill etc)What do you need done and does it require special tooling? Give some detail of whats involved and what do have to trade?

One of the biggies for me is what I'm calling a ball-centering jig. Basically, it's block of steel (nice if it was hardened, but doesn't have to be) with two perpendicular "V" grooves milled into it, so that when you set a ball bearing into the intersection, it's very easy to put on a drill-press and drill square, centered holes (like for pommels). It's reasonably important that the grooves be square in relation to one another, so as to prevent the hole being off to one side. I'm thinking if it was about 3"x3"x1/2", that would be just about right, if the grooves were, say, 3/8" or 1/2" wide. A nice touch would also be a pilot hole at the center of the intersection--right dead at the center. But hey, I'm easy, I can put that in, myself, if it's an aggravation.

That's my biggie. Why don't we start there, and see what we'd need to work, first, since most of the rest of the things I need aren't quite as time-critical. This block is holding up a couple of projects, though, so I'm more interested in finding out about it...

As for trade, are you looking more for materials, or for finished products? I don't stock a lot of material, most of the time--I could offer you some green Bodark, if you're interested, but that's about it. If you want something made, we can talk, though.

Thanks for the reply, Bro. :D

Whats going to keep the ball from spinning when you drill it. So the bottom line is you want a jig so you can drill spherical objects dead center. Let me email you my thoughts on this. Unless Im missing the obvious. what is bodunk or whatever that is?
