Anyone with a lot of time behind a PSK?

I have one in O1 and really like it but I can't decide if I want to have some micarta scales put on it. I keep thinking it would be nice as a skinner/small game knife with scales but then I like it without. Anyone have experience either way give me some pros and cons? I'm torn.

Got three of them, none with scales... want scales. Just prefer the micarta scales then unwrapped or 550 wrapped. Have a PSKsr with micarta and I love it.

i have had my PSK for many years now.. i love it... i had Reid over at sharpshooter sheath systems, make me a kydex sheath for it...

i think it would make a great skinner/small game knife... they're crazy sharp... mine has gutted a few fish in the past and prep'd planty of lunches....:)

i think you can get some scales that are removable, maybe with chicago screws... or possibly just wrap it with leather or p-cord...

here's some pics to help persuade you....:D

I can tell you from using one both ways that the added scales make it much more comfortable to use especially for game prep. It works great for whitetails. Although I haven't gutted any deer with it, I've used it to skin them. It makes short work of a skinning job. I know others who have used it for small game like squirrels.
The idea behind the blade only was to serve as a kit knife and if handles were needed it was set up to cord wrap. From the original concept, it has since developed into a full blown EDC and practical outdoor user.

My PSK was the first knife I used without scales and although I fully understand and appreciate the concept, I never really warmed up to cord wrapping handles and worring about rust under the wrap. I had Scott make me a Micro Tusker with linen Micarta and I have never looked back.

Thanks guys. Right now I'm mostly using it for food prep and I'll tell you it make short work of chicken and veggies.:D I think I need to go out and dedicate some time into just using this to do some whittling and bushcrafty things. I'm not currently a hunter but it's a possiblity for me to go out with buddies and just think it'd be cool to whip out a tiny little PSK and have it perform well.

A buddy of mine has two blade only PSK's. He uses them exclusively in the kitchen and is very happy with them as is.

Yup, I use one of mine in the kitchen all the time, mostly for preppin veggies or cubin meat for stews, but the darn thing works great. Replaced my Mora completely. But I do want one with scales.... sigh.

Mine has scales, very comfortable to use. The convex edge and O-1 make for a hellavu good cutting combo.

But that PSKX looks like a cutting machine!

Now that is sweet!

That's good to hear. You've had yours for awhile now.

I have had mine for around maybee 5-6 month. Carry it every day and I mean every day. It has preformed great. Mine is A-2 with Green Canvas Micarta. Sharpens great and is comfortable in hand. It came with the standard JRE sheath that Scott has made up but I have since switched to a pocket sheath from KSF. I love this set up. I have also had JRE make me a standard PSK sheath but with a clip instead of a loop. I am realy liking that also.

Does anyone know what the scales are on IUKE12's PSK? Is that red and green or red and black, either way, I really like that look.

It's red/black linen micarta. Very cool looking micarta.

Man, that stuff looks cool on anything. I've just gone nutty for cocobolo recently.

Must not mention EDC, must not mention EDC :D.
