just got one this weekend at a show. love it so far. smooth action, awesome handle, 'axis' type lock is decent, and that lanyard release thing is great. however, mine seems to have a decent amount of vertical blade play that can't seem to be affected by tightening th pivot pin. anyone else? is mine defective?

Man, that really sucks. Blade wobble seems to be a hallmark of Schrade's modern folders, so in a way it doesn't surprise me. This is why I tend to stay away from the brand except for a few of their traditional slipjoint pocketknives I own.

It seems like the folks at Schrade have forgotten this forum even exists, so you'll probably never get a response from them here. If you're unhappy with the Spitfire, I'd call them and see about sending the knife in for warranty service or just return the knife back to the dealer and get something else.

Keep us updated.

My Benchmade BM705P has a slight lateral blade play (zero vertical), whereas my Spitfire has some vertical blade play (zero lateral). I'm not worry about it, just enjoy your new toy ;)

yup, the spitfire doesn't have any lateral play. i'm not too worried anymore because the knife is so small, my thumb rests on the spine to compensate for the play. kind of glad and dissipointed at the same time that you guys have the same vertical play. i think it's inherent to the design of the locking mechanism. great toy anyway.

I just bought a Spitfire too. Great little knife. Yes it has some vertical blade play, but only a very little bit. It doesn't bother me at all. It's a great knife for every day carry and I feel more comfortable using in the presence of other people due to the small size. My other EDC is a Kershaw Avalanche b.t.w.

I don't have a spitfire, but nice to see some new faces here. Or, I guess I mean it's nice to read some new screen names. Welcome to the best kept secret here in bladeforums.com.

The official moderator, Tim Faust deserted us sometime back. Our unoffical leader is LT.. We've been studying Schrade knives here, and having fun as we learn. Check out the thread "The knives of Walden" and a few of our past threads to see what I mean.
