Anyone worry about lead paint onthe swedish suplus axes?

I wouldn't worry about it. It's not toxic to touch. Just don't sand it down and breathe in the dust. It's a problem when you are breathing it in or ingesting it everyday. Guys who worked sanding down and repainting metal on bridges, cars, etc, way back when. Leaded diesel and gasoline is still commonly used in many third world countries. People who cook or eat out of pots with lead glazing. The Romans did that.

i have a nice Swiss Army t-handle shovel. the blade and handle are painted black, probably lead based paint. i never thought about till you posted.

Keep them out of your mouth you should be fine. Use it and the paint will wear off under normal use. If you start trying to clean it up with a wire brush then lightly mist it with water to keep it from getting in the air.

"should be fine"

That always makes one feel better.....
Except for rare cases of long term health effects to major organs, hair loss, tooth loss, fingernails falling out, diminished vision, hearing and taste, total loss of smell, loss of sexual desire and certain other as of yet unknown side effects including death...otherwise you should be fine.

Nah you"ll be fine - my parents repeatedly tell the tale of being at niagra falls in the 70s when I was young and catching me eating the paint off the observation platform protective bars - and I'm just fine!!

I remember those, they were tasty. My folks took us there in 1975. There was a kid gnawing on them like a woodchuck...was that you?
