Anyone own one of the "Green beret" survival knives (6 and 1/2 inch blade, compass inlaid in handle)? If so, could you tell me if it works at all? I'm thinkin of getting one, but if its crap i dont wanna go near it...

Thanks!

Oh, please don't...

I've just had a look at the knife in question.

First, the compass is next to metal; not a good start. It certainly won't be balanced to the metal like a ship's compass is. So it won't read very well I wouldn't think.

Next, if you chop with the knife, the compass bearing will certainly suffer.

I had a knife with a compass in the handle once; complete waste of time.

Please get yourself a decent knife, and a button compass.

Just my 2p,

Rick.

I dont care about the compass, seeing as i already have a really nice one. Im just talking about the knife in general... any thoughts?

No, please dont purchase. There is better value. Buy a Becker, Kabar, or Buck.

I'm with Paleo25, get the Mora 2000, or spend $10.00 and get a Frost Mora Clipper, or their Swedish Army Knife (SwAK). All three of these Mora made knives are top notch performers. The one you are considering doesn't even make the cut.

I also have to agree. Take it from someone who used to buy cheap "cool looking" knives. They are made very poorly and you most likely won't even be able to get the knife sharp enough to be useful. There are many inexpensive, good quality knives out there. Once I bought a few quality knives, I threw the crap knives I had away. If you look around, you can get a good quality knife for $20 or less. Along with ones already mentioned, check out the Cold Steel Bushman.
