Anything knife/axe/military related in Oxford, England? Going to be there for a couple weeks. Looks like there's a castle but it sounds empty. Also going to Blenheim Palace and the Oxford Museums (Natural History, Pitt Rivers, Science, Art and Archaeology).

Anything else?

Hi Timberwolf, Oxford is indeed a very historic and mainly genteel sort of a place. It's a small university city so you'll see LOTS of students. I'm not that familiar with Oxford or the County of Oxfordshire (I lived in Banbury over 20 years ago), but if you like your history then Oxford is a good destination. It has some fine museums and galleries, old churches and olde worlde pubs.
The surrounding countryside is stereotypical rural England, and your close to the Chilterns. If you get bored there's good links to London for a day out, where you'll find plenty of military history related attractions.
In regards to knife/axe/military related things I'm not aware of any military museums or suchlike in the Oxford area. However as you have '7.62' in your moniker I'm assuming your a shooter/hunter? So if I said to a gun owner in the US, the predominant culture in Oxford is more California than Montana I think you'll understand what Oxford is like in that regard.
Hope you enjoy your visit.:thumbsup:

Thanks! We did London on a previous trip, and also Scotland (Aberdeen - Edinburgh - Loch Ness, castle tour in that area, etc.) on yet another trip.

Be very careful if you are planning to take any knives to the UK - or possess or carry any while you are there. The knife laws in the UK are pretty strict - non-locking basic folding knives only, with a blade length of less than 3-inches. Gravity knives are illegal (not sure how those are defined), and AN IMAGE OR WORD PRINTED OR EMBOSSED SUGGESTING VIOLENCE is illegal?!?!? But do your own research! I got the above information from the GOV.UK website, as well as this warning: "The maximum penalty for an adult carrying a knife is 4 years in prison and an unlimited fine." That is a cut-and-paste direct from GOV.UK website.

Yeah, gonna be going in bare. No .45, no lockblade, no multitool. I guess it's still legal there to carry a ballpoint pen.

I think you'd get more response if you posted this in the "Traditionals" forum. There's a number of UK guys on that board.

I grew up there; the Pitt Rivers certainly used to house an assorted collection of weird and wonderful historic weapons from around the globe. Also, you may still be able to see some shrunken heads on display...

Enjoy Oxford; there are more pubs per square mile than any other city in England. Try ‘The Turf’, behind New College, for a particularly interesting place.

Let us know how you got on. :)
