I'm planning to run a contest on another forum, for a mix of art people and gun people (it's a gun art contest).

I was thinking of giving away a couple of those tiny $15-20 Anza utility knives as a prize. I figure that it's as affordable as a Byrd or CRKT, but is a genuine American handmade knife, and pretty cool overall.

Do you think that a college student who likes gadgets and cool stuff, but doesn't know much about steel and bevels, would appreciate an Anza? Or should I spend the prize money on buying a few Opinels instead, or some CRKT mini like the SideHawg?

I think the Anza is pretty awesome, and would be better still if the recipient knows that it's made by hand. Or is the kid just gonna think "Man, I compete in a contest and I get some weird tiny knife made out of old scrap metal"?

I think the anza would be fine, gun people probably know what it is and artsy people should be able to appreciate once someone explains it to them. definitely better than another dang chinese made knife. btw nice of you to do, people love contests. later, ahgar

For people that know anything about knives, Anza knives are a fine choice. Some people may not know what to make of them though.

Thanks for the "heads up"...I wasn't familiar with Anza knives at all...after reading your post, I looked them up and liked what I saw. Being a total junkie, of course I ordered one...lol. I can't wait to see it...it looks like a pretty cool knife. Any other opinions of these knives out there?

I think Ill order one too, being another total junkie

Everyone likes knives... some just don't know it yet. Infect a few while they're young and you own them for life!

I think they'd catch....I've owned a few Anza's and they've worked out quite well for me. It's really cool how they leave the file marks along the spine to show that it's made from a file. The people at Anza are very nice people and excellent to deal with. They're a local company here and I see them at the gunshow whenever I go. They always tell me if theres nothing I like on the table, they can make whatever I want :D that's a cool way to get new customers.

I think it's a good idea. Perhaps art-oriented people could use a small utility knife, and gun-oriented people will almost certainly appreciate Anza.

You should also contact Anza and perhaps have a one-of-a-kind knife made for the contest? They can customize one of their standard models or create an entirely new knife based on your specs.

Good Luck,
-Bob

They have some process where they can etch a design or word on the blade.

I think arts-oriented people would appreciate the hand-crafted aspect of the Anzas.
