I just picked up an Anza - it's a knife made from a file. As such, it smells like one. :o

Anyway, does anyone have any ideas on how to neutralize the smell or at least reduce it some? Or maybe I just need to get used to it, since I really like the knife.

For reference, their website is http://store.anzaknivesonline.com

Just received my first Anza knife yesterday. First thing I did was sniff the blade due to the reports of an oder coming from the blade. I could not smell anything strange, maybe my sense of smell has deteriorated over the last 51 years.

:D
Just a note. If this is the knife I think it is, it was used mainly in the kitchen, and has a pretty good patina going on. My Boddington smells vey strong of onions, because I cut a lot of them. Washing it only increases the smell. I find it rather nice, but then I really like onions. All my carbon kitchen knives take on a slight smell.

As for neutralizing it. I haven't tried it, but you could try polishing the patina off and see if that helps.

:foot: Ah, how embarrassing. :o I've been sniffing a lot of metal dust so maybe I mistook the smell for metal. Yes, perhaps it's onions. LOL.

I'm sure it will take on different smells after I use it. Thanks.

Yeah, my Anzas take patina and sometimes I can detect a very slight odor of whatever I was slicing, (Before washing). If this disturbs you at all!! Please send the knife to me. I promise I will take great care of it. AR

Baking soda may help with odor- HOWEVER, I don't know what it's effect may be on the patina- maybe someone else does?
