Anza Knives

They are made from old files,they are fairly inexspensive,people I know that have and use them like them.They are located in Santee,CA.Hope this helps.
 
Spillers guns & cutlery carries them here...The model I owned was a good blade...Sheath left alot to be desired but the knife was a good user..Lost it..:(
 
I owned about a 2.5 inch blade model. The edge bevels where very thick so it was not a slicer, but 20 minutes and some DMT hones helped. This could have been because the width was smaller relative to thickness.

The handle is a little slippery when wet, etc. also the blade rusts very easily as would be expected, it takes quite a bit of care. It sharpens easily, the sheath was nice.

If you want an inexpensive carbon steel knife I think they a good deal.
 
Anza makes very good quality using knives. I've got a 5" upswept point skinner made from an old rasp by Anza. Easy to sharpen and gets a Wicked edge that holds pretty good.
They are relatively inexpensive(used to be the last time I checked anyway).
The sheaths are kind of cheesy in that they use 6-7 oz. leather.:rolleyes:
On customs and higher end production knife sheaths, you'll often see 8-10 oz. leather. Substantially thicker. The knives though will last you nearly a lifetime if cared for properly.

Anza has a good thing going here.
Files are a great source for straight carbon cutlery grade steels. And used and castaway files can be had relatively cheaply.

Personally, I've found older Nicholson Black Diamond files make outstanding user/abuser blades. The best thing about them is you can find them dirt cheap in pawn shops and flea markets. I've paid as little as .25-.50 cents a file for them at times.:D

The one standout drawback of file knives is that they are straight carbon steel and will literally rust while you are looking at them if no form of protection is used on the blade. Not a problem if you keep them lightly oiled or Tuff-Clothed. Eventually, you'll get a patina on the blade which, IMO, adds lots of character to a knife.
