AO is growing on me

I recently bought my third AO knife, the avalanche. The Mini Mojo and Blue Bump I think I'd actually like more as manuals. The Avalanche, however, is a new experience for me. I wouldn't like this knife if it weren't AO. I can't really explain why it feels so much more appropriate on one knife than another.

In any case, I'm opening myself up to future AOs provided the "click" with me like the Avalanche did.

I'm still a manual guy, but an AO here and there is nice.

Maybe some folks have shared a similar experience.

I know exactly what you're saying. The leek could go either way (would be a great manual, but the assist is a cool little addition. But it stands on it's own just great). The chive however, since it's so small, and using the studs on it would be a pain, practically requires the assist, but it shines. It's such a small, sexy knife, and it's fast and easy to open. Most small knives are much less easy to open, just because of the way you have to hold them, but the chive seems to just want to open the instant you think about it.

Mac I totally agree on the small knife opening. The only small knives that I find open well are spydercos and AO's (Haven't tried them all, but I love the Onions). I love the round hole and the Ken Onion designs.

In my humble opinion the Leek is almost a perfect EDC. It has not failed me yet. The only time I'm unhappy is when I need a blade with more belly. I have some expensive knives (Expensive to me is over $100) and I still end up carrying a Leek (Various models) or a Spyderco Native. Both exceptional knives.

Agree with CMSpeedy

I carry the leek and the SPec Bump on alternating days. The Spec Bump seemed so BIG when I first got it, but after carrying it for a couple of months, it seems to shrink and now is the perfect size for EDC. I have big hands, so I like a more substantial knife. And the Spec Bump has plenty of belly, but is still precise enough for what I need.

My ZDP Leeks (2) should be here in two days!:D :D

I've historically preferred manual operation and still do in many ways but, I must admit to warming up to AO now that I have been carrying the rather outstanding SS Leek most of the time for the past 5 months. I have also acquired the Green Bump (another rather outstanding knife) and, even prefer operating it in it's AO mode. I've come to the conclusion that AO has it's place. I now have four immediate AO Kershaw purchases in mind:

1. ZDP Leek (just a soon as my local dealer has one - though there is really nothing wrong with the SS Leek)
2. Cyclone (Very nice size and feeling EDC AO knife - just wish it was a SS or Ti framlock)
3. ZT-200 (I can't resist buying one of these)
4. Junk Yard Dog (how could anyone not want this knife)

You'll like the Cyclone even though it's a liner lock. The Blade is so substantial!

What is the Junk Yard Dog? I see it mentioned a lot?
