so i have narrowed it down to about 3 ao knives.
1. Kershaw Boa
2. Benchmade Mini-Nitrous Stryker
3. Benchmade Mini-Grip

I was just looking for some input from some owners of these knives for a few pro's and con's. I believe in "being prepared" it would be an edc. However i already have a "work" knife so this would be a "in case" knife. i would like a solid cutting blade with a little strength behind it. Also in case a little self defense is needed it would serve that function too. Is the recurve blade along with a really tough steel that hard to sharpen ? In the same breath this wouldn't be my regular work horse. Just was hoping for i bit of owner or expert opinion. before buy. Thanks a ton.

They make an AO Mini-Grip???

Kershaw is a solid choice for AO. The Boa is a Ken Onion design, has S30V, I don't mind liner locks and I love recurves. All it needs in my book. I wonder why I never got the Boa?

sorry, i wasn't saying the mini-grip was an ao. however the speed at which you can open it is close enough. i guess i love good steels and a little recurve. i also know that s30v and d2 are superior to 154cm but it isn't a bad knife that little mini-grip.

I have a few if the Boas. One of the toughest knives Kershaw makes that is not ZT branded. I now use one of my S30V's as my farm knife since I misplaced my 0500 MUDD. Often overlooked, but still a tough, sleek knife.

USA made any you cannot beat Kershaw's warranty.

If you like the grips look and feel I would check out the new 15020 and 15030 bone collector series from benchmade it basically is a grip but with g10 scales and sport a AXIS lock and D2 steel... They are worth taking a look at IMO...

thanks for the heads up. I can't find it for sale though. All the sites say it's super new. suggestions on where to pick it up ?

Its a new blade for Benchmades 2010 line up I would give it a a few weeks and you should be able to find one if you are wanting a grip I would advise waiting for the Bone Collector series to hit the market...

what he said!

I agree with the above. Also out of your list,(a good list btw) i'm not so sure chopping can be done with those..

Check out Benchmades 940/943. The Stryker is my fav EDC, and i feel would suit you we'll for your intended purpose.

Dont know anything about the Kershaw's, im sure theyre good though. The Nitrous Stryker is a nice knife with good materials ie. titanium liner, D2 steel and G-10. The D2 can be a real pain to sharpen but holds a good edge. If youre not good at sharpening id pass on the Stryker.

While being wellbuilt, the Stryker IMO looks too tactical escpecially in black and with a tanto tip. Add in the Nitrous function and the sheeple will scatter everytime you let it rip. To me thats not a positive thing.

I dont like the AO mechanism as its not bulletproof. Every now and then you hear about some who fails. No big deal as any company will fix it ASAP, but thats no good if youre in position at work needing your knife.

You also state that you need "a solid chopping blade". IMO youre not going to get much chopping capability out of any of the blades you mention. While all 3 are robust knives they are no match for a fixed blade in terms of strength.
