Hey Apache Owners,

I hope this is ok to post here but, short and to the point: I am anxious to check out an Apache first hand. I'll send any 1 of my knives to you to check out if you send me your Apache.

Details:
  • USPS flat rate shipping with tracking and insurance for the value of the knife, to be paid by each Sender. (each person would end up paying for shipping twice)
  • Swap is assumed to be for handling non-use only but PM/email correspondence could come up with a different agreement.
  • Max handling time would be 4 days (from time of USPS delivery) before shipping back to the Owner. I would likely mail your knife back the next business day.
  • I'd like to check out a 1/8" tapered w/o swedge and a 1/8" tapered w swedge.
  • Use PM or email to Warrior108 at gmail .com for correspondence rather than post in this thread. When I find a couple to do a swap with, I'll update this post.
  • You get to choose from these [click me]. Feel free to PM/email with any questions on knife details or specifics.

Thanks for your time and consideration,
Jerry

Warrior108 (Jerry) I am Okay with this thread. And I actually think its a great idea for the individual to check out my work if a suitable arrangement can me made between both parties. Let me know how it turns out! I have also thought about making a model every now and then and doing a pass around. I am not sure how much interest there would be in that.

I would totally be in on a pass around. I'm big on being able to get the knife in hand to see if I like it or not. It's sometimes tough to go just off of pictures and measurements.

This is a cool idea Jerry.

Must be a subliminal typo and you feel that I worry too much lol

Will do. I'll probably also open this up to me just paying shipping/insurance both ways in case nobody is interested in seeing any model from my stash.

Are you kidding? I think folks would jump at that offering. I even thought about making a suggestion to Phillip to make a model "library" that had each model but where the edge was flat dull like a training knife. People could pay a rental fee to check it out parts of the library. It would be cheaper to try something first-hand but for the Maker, there's a chance it could hurt business volume in the end.

Warrior - I've owned a Hunter for a while now, & I just recently received an Apache. I'll compare the two, as I see you've got Hunters. 1st of all, I dig your idea for sure, but it isn't for me...my Apache isn't getting shipped anywhere! I just wanted to share that I think you'd absolutely love the Apache man. The handle is shorter & slimmer - esp. at the front, which is the one thing I've always wished I could change about the Hunter....it's difficult to slip the Hunter into most of my leather sheaths that would otherwise fit a knife of its size. They both fit my hand very well, but my new Apache gets my #1 spot for comfort right away, out of my entire collection. My scales are a mix of Shade Tree's Electric Plum & Terracotta, & I don't know what Chris does exactly to achieve it, but the scales have a unique texture that I freakin' love. It's at once very grippy & smooth...I wish I could impart all of my scales with this texture.

I even like the blade shape a bit better on the Apache vs. my Hunter. It's more aggressive, w more of a dropped point, & I'm only losing 3/16" in overall edge length....& I imagine this may not be consistent, but I'm also happy that my Apache is more of a true 1/8" stock with tapered tang vs. my Hunter with a fat 1/8" stock & TT. Both of my knives can be seen in Chris' Lineup folder btw - I think they're both listed as Hunters, but my Hunter is the blue & green dyed wood w/pink & natural, while my Apache has the scales I described earlier w black & pink pinstripes & natural liners & pins. And Chris, I was expecting the pinstripes to be off just a smidge, as it's really difficult to get everything to line up when you're wrapping the bolsters & rears separately....but nope, everything is flawless fit & finish wise, on a complicated knife.

I love both knives, & in my professional opinion, Warrior, you need to get yourself an Apache right now...literally drop what you're doing (unless you're feeding a baby or disarming a bomb) & get one!

Last night I was feeding a baby. This morning I'm disarming a bomb. I did PM a question to Chris in between though. When I get some time after this bomb, I'll reply in more detail to VanDemmet. :-)

Thanks for the feedback and comparison!

Both of my Hunters are about the same in spec and size. I'd agree that the front part of the handle is a bit wide. They're paired up with a Joufuu Bushfinger or 4"er abmi sheath and it was a very snug fit around the front of the handle but it did eventually stretch out and snaps in nicely now - great for retention. The first Hunter I got was the bog oak (vs G-10) and it the rubbing/abrasion on the wood did make me a bit uneasy at first. And, the wood would dry out and get quite a bit lighter at those spots. That was fixed with frequent mineral oil. Once I had the G-10 Hunter though, I did a much more thorough sheath break-in with that one and then the bog oak Hunter was happier.

The Hunter handle is either at the top of my list or very near the top of my list for favorite/most comfortable. I'm not sure I can imagine the Apache being more better but I'll take your word for it.

Given that your Hunter is a fatter 1/8" than the Apache 1/8", could it be that your Hunter is CPM154 the Apache is A2/O1? I saw Phillip mention somewhere that the CPM154 stock is a tad thicker than the A2 and that could be a reason.

All that being said, I am anxiously waiting for a swedged 1/8' TT Apache to pop up. I now have 3 of Chris' models (2 Hunters, 2 Warthogs, 1 Mamushi), they are all flawless and each of them are well thought out designs.

Thanks again,
Jerry

I did but now I have to face something even worse .. hitting up the grocery store during 5pm rush hour. The only question is "Hunter or Mamushi?"

I partial to the Mamushi for an EDC role. The Hunter is great if you have larger hands and want a knife that is geared more towards traditional bushcrafting, Both are great options. It all depends on your intended use for it.
