I mentioned Apache throwing stars in the Rabbit stick thread and figured I'd knock one up today as I hadn't made one in quite a while.

I chose to use some Ocean Spray as it grows pretty straight ( The first nation people used it for arrows and spears ), however, I'd forgot just how bloody hard this wood is so notching it was a PITA !

I chopped it into two rough halves with my Booshway, I could have done it beaver style with my ML but didn't want to take all day:

Then find what is roughly the middle on both halves and notch them out so they fit into each other with a nice snug fit. Once that is done you can sharpen up the ends:

Once the notches are made and ends sharpened all ya need to do is lash the suckers together !

My little ML works awesome for this type of thing, the rough looking handle I put on is actually really comfy and I never get hot spots !

Another tip I've never really mentioned is about cordage. Virtually everyone on here makes Paracord lanyards etc so it provides plenty of cordage for emergencies. Well Maisy's leash is actually made up from about 8 feet of static climbing rope with a Bina to clip to her collar. Static climbing rope is made up of many smaller cords just like Paracord and can be stripped down to provide tons of cordage if needed, so if ya have a pooch maybe give this some thought !

What blashphemy!!! You didn't fireharden the tips!!!

Nah, didn't even throw this one so no point. I guess it might be worth it if you were planning on keeping the same one for multiple hunting trips !

It's fun to make them out of metal, plenty of applicable metal in teh urban environment for a quick weapon.

two metal strap ties (for example, not the best metal) are flat, drill a whole through the center, and with a bolt as a pivot, and a secondary fixture point to fix it in the open position, nice little weapon that can fold flat for carry. or take apart and each one can serve a purpose. basis for other applications.

nice job Pitdog.

I just made something similar after coming back from being out hunting. Didn't get a deer so I started a fire and made some dinner while I was out, and made one of these.
