Apex Ultra

On You Tube I saw a video from UK Bladeshow about a "New" steel, Apex Ultra, which reportedly was specifically made to be better than 52100, and for forging tough but very hard blades. Has anyone heard anything in the USA about this steel? John

In theory it sounds like a very nice steel indeed but as always HT will be key.

ApexUltra is very good stuff if you want high hardness/strength edges. It is tougher than other steels at very high hardness. It is also more wear resistant than other low alloy steels. I wouldn't call it better than 52100, since better depends on the application, but it is the best low alloy steel for high hardness applications.

It’s not a good steel for a hamon because it is an oil hardening steel not a water hardening steel.
