and most of all DDR is a great guy to deal with, you wont be dissapointed !!

I have to second chisel's post. I have a medium Apogee and would never give it up. The handle provides great finger protection but is still slim enough for easy carry. It just feels great in my hand. Darrel really worked out all of the design features to perfection. He's also a good guy who provides excellent customer service.

Sorry I can't help you with the price, but it seems to depend on the features. You might try some of the custom knife sites or ask Darrel by email to get an idea of the cost.

The Apogee is a great knife. They are worth the money that you pay for them. The best way to find out the pricing is to contact Darrel at darrel@darrelralph.com.

The Apogee is one of my favorite custom folders. Regardless of which size you choose, manual or Illusion release, you are definitely getting a well built custom folder. Plus if there are any options you want on yours, Darrel is very receptive to requests of this nature and is a helluva damn nice guy to do business with as well. The cost of the Apogee will vary with blade material, handle material, or any other options like nuggeting but it's safe to say anywhere around $400-$500 for the manual and upwards of $800 for the Illusion release DA version. It is best to get in touch with Darrel to inquire about specific prices.

Sebenza? What's that?

I have a small Apogee. Love it! Slim carry, locks up tight, blade very sharp. Was a little hard to open at first but within a couple weeks action very smooth. It's a no nonsense knife. Cost is around $400.00. Service from Darrel is great, he returns e-mails promptly. Works well looks pretty too. I would consider the Apogee with slotted carbon fiber. It's a liner lock, but it looks nice. I prefer the frame lock. I think it is very much worth it.

I have a medium Apogee that i picked up in trade a while back and I think it is a work of art. The anodizing is beautiful though that I have never been able to really use it.
The only down side is that integral lock on mine is a bit slick and was a little tricky to close until I got used to it. I guess if you order it directly from Darrel Ralph, you can ask him to put some ridges on it to make it easier to manipulate.

I don't have an Apogee, but I do have an EDC, so I feel safe recommending Darrel's work. Personally, I actually like the EDC better than the Apogee, but that's just a matter of taste.

If you aren't happy with the Apogge you get, let me know. I'll be happy to take it off your hands.

The Apogee is an incredible knife. No matter what the size, blade or handle material. $400 -$500 seems to be the average cost. Check Darrels site and send him an e-mail. You can go from an absolutely plain Jane basic material with no color or decoration to a full blown exotic.

That being said, The EDC is my favored DDR knife. Although, I haven't put my hand on a MADD MAXX as of yet.

Be careful, Darrel has a nasty habit of listening to what you want and then giving you more than you expected. You won't be disappointed.

I'd rather carry a sharpened pewter letter opener than Darrel's knives. Why people buy his stuff I don't know...

Hehehe...just kidding! I've not enough experience to make any sort of opinion, so I'll go along with what these guys say.

The Apogee looks like it just plain sucks from the pictures. I wouldn't change my mind if everyone on this board were to send me theirs to try convincing me. Nuh uh. Especially not those D/A's. Wouldn't change my mind for a hundred of those awful knives.

All right, you can try. Drop me a note for the address where you can ship your Apogees. And if you want to start sending EDCs, that would probably keep me from forming a poor opinion of them, too. Oh, yeah.

And Madd Maxx's. Those things look like I could really get to disliking them, too. Especially the dagger blades. Better send me a few of those to dissuade me, as well.

Did I mention that I have my suspicions about Darrel's work with Damascus?

It's fair to say that the Apogee has fit and finish second to none. It is a very competently made custom folder. The really interesting thing for me is its light weight. Many custom folders are on the heavy side. Not the Apogee. If you value lightweight folders, this could be the one for you. Incidentally, we have a couple in stock. You can see them at http://www.knifeoutlet.com/custompix.htm along with several other nice customs. Take care.

The one I have on order is a base Apogee w/ a 3.9" blade. No gold, crosshatching, or nugget work. Base price $445.
Ask me how good it is in a few weeks

No extra charge for getting to deal with Darrel Ralph, which has been a real pleasure.

The Apogee won the Daytona 500 three years in a row in the early sixties! The Apogee was one of a handful of scientists smuggled out of East Germany by US Commandos just before the rise of the Iron Curtain. The Apogee is suspected of being the infamous Nixon White House informer known as Deep Throat. The Apogee is smarter than your average bear! The Apogee played Jim-Bob on ”The Waltons”. The Apogee still holds the World Record in the Triple jump.

The Apogee knows what it wants, and it knows how to get it!
