what will be your target price point of the apogee colaboration?

which market are you trying to get at, the cold steel customers or the people that pick up a spyderco military, look at the pricetag in the store of around $200 and say "yeah, thats a good price for this knife"

you seem to have your other knives in the $50 to $100 range. maybe this one could aim a bit higher?

$80-$100 is the MSRP so far. It may change depending on materials used and what not so stay tuned as I am sure David will keep us informed.

To Mike Turber & Apogee Fans:

Mike, many thanks for all your support and posts on our forum. I don't know who has more Oudoor Edge posts, you are me? Also it was great to see you again at the recent Blade Show.

Since we are now in the product development stage, all options regarding materials, construction and lock mechanism are open for consideration. We also want to give the people what they want. Therefore your input and comments are most valued and appreciated at this stage of the Apogee project. We have received several requests for a titanium frame lock. Darrel also offers the Apogee with carbon fiber scales and double liners (Another option for the production version).

One thing that is certain is the Apogee is one of the best tactical/utility designs I have seen in a long time. For a flat handle knife the grip ergonomics and comfort are second to none.

While Outdoor Edge is new to the tactical folder market, we have eleven years experience in producing quality, high performance cutting tools backed by a solid warranty and prompt customer service. In regards to this I guaranty the production Apogee will be a quality reproduction of Darrel's hand made knife that offers a good value.

Thank you for your attention and keep your input coming.

For now lets ingnore the target MSRP that was mentioned.

We have had so much positive feedback on the Apogee design in general as well as producing this model in a titanium frame lock. We definately have the capability to produce the frame-lock and this will be the primary path we plan to take. This does not yet rule out a G-10/Carbon fiber liner-lock version either.

As far as the MSRP mentioned, it is too early at this stage of the project to base this number on anything concrete. Bottom line, the production Apogee will be a great knife and a great value.

Again, our goal is to give the people what they want. Thanks for all the input and keep the comments coming.

Wishing the best

There is one concern I have as a dealer. Even though I am sure the knife will be of the highest quality people will not want to spend a lot of money on a knife made in taiwan if that is where these will be made.

Here in Austria people thought so also!
But when they saw the quality which CRKT makes in Taiwan they changed their minds! (Look at the S-2)
I will think that the apogee will be very successful!

To Tom:

CRKT and Outdoor Edge are fortunate to be working with the very top quality knife makers in Taiwan.

Over ten years ago Japan made every quality level from low to high. Now only quality knives come from Japan. Since then Taiwan has grown up fast. A lot of junk to mid-quality still comes from Taiwan but all the real junk has moved to China.

Keep your eye on the new breed of quality Taiwan made knives. They are marked CRKT and Outdoor Edge.

Actually I agree the quality is high for the price. I have a CRKT M16-04 that I have been using the last few weeks. The problem is though the typical potential knife buyer is not at least a at the present time, going to pay a lot for a knife made in Taiwan. Because of most folks perception of the quality of knives coming from that country. That will be an issue to overcome.

Tom Carey

To Tom:

Yes, I agree it will take time for the general public to accept that quality knives can be made in Taiwan.

CRKT has been getting Taiwan skepticism from day one. While still a young company, CRKT is quickly becoming an industry mover and shaker. I think Outdoor Edge hooking up with the quality Taiwan makers helps to justify CRKT's position and visa versa. In any case we are in this for the long haul. If it takes time to convince people, no worries, time is on our side.

I have been to Taiwan seven times over the past three years. Each time I go, I push the makers for better and better quality. When I return several months later, they have already moved up to that quality level and are ready to take on the next challange. It is really a pleasure to work with manufacturers like this as compared to, "Sure we can do that! OOPS! I guess we can't do that".

Thanks for your comments.
