But I am in love.DSCN0923.jpg

She is going to have to share the bed tonight. Right out of the box I love how this knife feels. I don't know why my 5 feels better than any other I have handled but it does. I decided to indulge myself with a little bit of instant gratification and ordered some micarta scales also. DSCN0926.jpg
They have a few rough edges on the top and bottom but I don't think that is anything a little sanding can't take care of. The bk13 is just so I can keep up with RRR1977, now we are even :D. Also kudos to Tomar's for their fast processing, I ordered these on friday and they got them to me accross the country over the weekend with just standard shipping. Check back in a week after I give her the harley bitch treatment.

The 5 is just a sexy beast aint she! I love mine way more then I thought I would....great knives.

I'm gonna have to sample that liquid in the Kerr jar...... safety procedures dontcha know.

Nice set up, right off the bat. Micarta scales and a Ramora for the sheath. Just add an Altoids tin survival kit and you're all set.

Here are two reasons- balance and speed.;)

At least that's why I like my BK-5. Mine's getting customized into 'the Camp /Kitchen knife from hell" . I really like the 5. It had great parents.:)

Eww.

I like it because its a slicing machine, and pointy.

Fast and quick are just some cool features that go with that.

I was convinced I would never get one because I just couldn't dig the shape of the thing. Then one came up on the Aussie Exchange that was too good to pass up and WOW! Instantly my favourite Becker. Not that there aren't jobs that would see me reach for my BK-9 for preference, but for just feeling damn awesome in the hand, that 5 has the others beat hands down.

Congrats! I don't have a 5 (yet) but I agree with that you're saying about the factory micarta. The cuts are a bit rough on the sets I've received. I just grab a small rat tail file and work over the radius to smooth out and rough edges. Works very well and the grips feel perfect after smoothing. You can also use the file to add some intentional traction grooves if you want. I did that to my BK9 and it works nicely.

does anyone really need a knife that big? I cant imagine ever wanting to carry around something like that. Do you guys actually strap a sheath to you hip and walk around with those things? I guess I just dont get it, a nice folder just seems to be all the kife I need and so much less cumbersome to cary.

If it is too big, but you still like the shape, the BK15 is perfect. I have the 15 but now looking at a BK5! Threads like this only help to push me over the edge.

This is an OUTDOOR knife for OUTDOOR situations (although it makes a hella good kitchen knife too). A folder may be adequate for walking asphalt...even then I prefer a small fixed blade though.... but a folder aint gonna cut it in the woods, well, it could, but you would be wishing you had a larger fixed blade in about 3 minutes.

I dont need most of what I buy, but that aint never stopped me before. :)

Short answer- yes. Yes we do need a knife that big. Welcome to the Becker forum.

Awesom-o, nope, I still have a Remora that you dont have! Nice shot of the vitamin "R" behind the 5. Now you see why I like it so much. Now, watch the fight scenes from "The Last of the Mohicans" for a few hours..............................and don't cut yourself when trying the hawk/longknife combo. Remember the no hospital rule.......................................

I bought the remora too it is just hiding in one of the pics. I am definatly watching last of the mohicans tonight and I will spend most of the evening running through the woods in a buck skin loin cloth with my bk5 and my trail hawk working on my war cry :D

I spent several days on a campout a few weeks ago with my 5 on my belt at all times, unless I had my Machax or 9 instead. But the 5 was my go-to knife on that trip. It's not a burden to carry, and is nice and light.
