This is a knife that I finished back in November, using techniques that I've been working on for several years. It is the seventh blade I've finished using these techniques.

Steels: Ladder damascus of 1084 and 15N20, inlayed with floral elements of high carbon and nickle alloy steels.
Handle: Stabilized Juniper burl grip with Wrought iron (old anchor chain), guard and spacer.

My thanks to Jim Cooper (SharpByCoop.com), for creating such a wonderful image and for submitting it to Blade Magazine (and others), on my behalf. This one showed up in the January 2008 issue of "Knife World" and the March 2008 issue of Blade.

I'm not sure I've ever felt such instantaneous lust for a piece of steel in my life. Outstanding

michael....i just saw that pic in blade and was very impressed.....i'm not a big fan of most mosaic damascus' but that is just too cool.....great job.....goes to show yu how much more exposure you can get from one great photo......ryan

It's too bad that you weren't able to maybe find a piece of burled applewood to go along with that, what a beauty. I like the hammered effect on the guard, it really sets everything off.

That is very, very cool. A new advent in artistic steel. Marvelous. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome! Guys, as nice as those pics are you, you should see one of Michael's inlaid damascus knives "in the flesh". Even my wife likes them. :D

bluejaunte.....if you have any pics i'd love to see what you have of michael's.....ryan

Mike and I were both unaware the knife would make the magazine. One of the things I ask from any maker is submitting me my detailed info sheet with their comments added. I printed out all his particulars and printed it on a label on the back of the submitted photo. That's all it took.

it is a deserved knife to showcase. The materials are all complimentary and beautiful together.

Congrats, Mike!

Most regrettably I don't own any of Michael's knives. I did have a very pleasant conversation with him at the AKCA show last November, and I'm pretty sure I left more than a few fingerprints on his knives.

thanks for the info bluejaunte.....too bad everybody can't fondle cusom knives.....that's the hardest thing buying from new makers....thank god for people like coop that can bring pics to life....ryan

Ryan,

Though Michael is new to BFC he isn't a new maker by any means. I think he's been doing this for a decade or so...

That is just beautiful. I don't know if you would classify that as mosaid damascus, but if it is, it's the first I've seen that I've really loved.

The whole effect of the knife is great. As mentioned by others the sheath is wonderful as well.

Thanks for sharing and inspiring.
