Can anyone recommend any survival/outdoors related apps that don't require the internet since it's an iPod not an iPhone?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not raggin the Lifetime Hunting License deal, it makes sense to me, I just thought the ScareBear was funny.

I've heard of a backpacker app but it costs 10 bucks

There is a app called "wikihow survival guide" that has a variety of articles on how to survive or deal with all sorts of events, everything from a nuke attack to a snake bite. I believe it is free.

Cool, thanks for the replies. I picked up the SAS Guide and the Wiki and found one on knots.

What is the one on knots called?

I paid for one called Knot Guide (app icon is a red/white & blue/white rope tied together). I can't recommend it yet as I have fully played with it too much. The screenshots looked good though.

My fiance has one called AcuTerra - it's a map app that then lets you download various trail map bundles for an additional fee. The maps are pretty decent, although they are more useful on an iphone, which has GPS.

I have the SAS manual and Knot Guide and Knot Time on my iPod. I prefer the Knot Time app because it has videos showing the knot being tied.

iTopoMaps let's you download free topographic maps and then zoom in and out of them. It can also show paths/trails.

I can't remember how much I paid for it. It was maybe $10.

It's great to have a ton of topo maps on your phone (or iTouch). You download them at home (on wifi, they are huge downloads) and then carry them with you.
