Apple Magic Trackpad

I'm an Apple fan, I will admit. I also don't really like mice. I try to keep my hands on the keyboard at all times. However, when I need to use the mouse, I heavily prefer something I don't have to drag all over the place.

My experience with the new Magic Mouse was extremely positive. If I had to use a mouse, that would be it. When it came down to actually purchasing one for myself, I noticed the Magic Trackpad was released.

I don't understand the "Magic" prefix, but whatever it is, it's good. Full gesture support, any directional scrolling, position aware clicking, dragging and drag lock. This is perfect. Now if only they made it bigger. :)

Overall it has a bigger footprint then my mouse, but considering it doesn't move it actually uses less desk space. I'm not sure about long term "health" benefits, but it feels better then the mouse. I don't have to conform to the device, I can practically use any part of my hand to move around and click. The more complicated gestures of course require fingers.

All over I would recommend this for anyone looking to replace their mouse. I do suggest you give it a try beforehand though. I'm a heavy trackpad user on my MacBook, that helped a lot in the decision making.

Josh, I got to see the new Trackpad at work before I quite and went back to school, but never heared anything about it. Thanks for taking the time to let us know what you think.

I've disliked Apple mice for many generations and have said that if I ever get another mac, I'll get an aftermarket mouse that fits my hand properly. The Trackpad looks like a step in the right dirrection for Apple.

Even though I like my Magic Mouse well enough (as far as using a mouse goes...), I'm definitely going to have to give the Magic Trackpad a try. I think it would be especially great for users like my dad (it hurts just watching him try to use my iMac) who just have so much trouble transitioning from a laptop trackpad to a mouse.

I love the Magic Mouse, but the Trackpad is even better. The gesturing is smooth and intuitive. It takes a bit to get used to not grabbing onto a mouse, but once I was used to it going back to a mouse seems really awkward. I did find that the angle gave me some arm fatigue but one of the small wrist pads fixed it.
