Apple Watch 2 draining my iphone battery

I bought the Apple Watch Series 2 last week. Loved the features on it but it was draining my iPhone battery in about 4 hours and my phone is new. I turned off Bluetooth, most Notifications and it still sucks the life out of my phone battery. Anyone else experience this with their Apple watch 2?
Its like the app, whether you turn off notifications and turn off Bluetooth, is still trying to communicate with the watch. The watch battery itself was fine. It would last several days without needing a charge.

Ideas? I took the watch back for a refund but am wondering if I just had a bad one.

I understand Fitbit users have similar complaints when using it paired to their smartphone.

Fav the original iWatch and new iPhone 7 (just upgraded). Never had issues with iPhone 6 or new 7 in this regard. Seems like something else might be causing it, there is the background app refresh section in settings you might want to look at. Also under the battery section in general settings you can tell what apps are killing your battery. Maybe an app that installed on your watch keeps refreshing?

Is yours the original version watch? The series 2 has GPS which can kill battery life quick.
I tried turning off about everything that could be trying to refresh but nothing worked. Even the Apple rep at Best Buy tried turning everything off on the watch and phone but it was still sucking battery. He watched the battery meter on my phone drop every minute or so. Then he tried to unpair the watch and phone and although successful, when he checked online, it was still paired. He was baffled. It finally showed as unpaired and my battery issue stopped.
Maybe I'll try another one from a different store. After some online reading, it seems to be common, especially after the most recent watch software update.

I have a version 1, and do not have this issue. Also, I would suggest going to an Apple store, where they really know the devices, vs. Best Buy. I know more than the people at Best Buy about Apple products.

Good advice. I think I'll go there this weekend and see what they say.

LMT66: Please let us know what they have to say.

I will. My GF has the same setup and although she does experience phone battery drain, it was nothing like I had. Our phones are both new.
