Hi Everybody

Anyone knows of such collaboration??

It should be double edged - wooden handle and signed by both legendary designers

Yes. It does exist.
As far as I know there were two versions: green lexan handle and the second generation with ironwood hanlde. Both have polished blades and a brass guard. they come with a leather sheath.
Hope this helps

Boker offers a model with a wood handle (can't remember the wood) ans, I think, a damascus, signed, blade.

As it is a discontinued knife it think it is rare.
The value? Good question.
Since it is production knife I think it will move around it's original retail-price. (I'm not expert)
I don't know how familiar your are with the history of this knife, but after the collaboration with AMK the knife was produced by Black-Jack-Knives and today there is a version by Böker.
Of course there are customs by Yancey.
Hope this helps

PS. I paid about$150 some years ago.

Red Mag-

Who is this "Yancey", and where can I see his stuff or get in touch with him?

Thanks.

Hi Bo!
The last address I know of is:
T.J. & Ann Yancey
P.O. Box 943
Estes Park, CO 80517 (phone 303-586-2153)
But I have to admit this info is from knives annual 1983 ! He and his wife are no longer mentioned in the knives annuals.
I found some pictures of the custom version in the " GunDigest book of knives 2nd edition"
I think he is no longer making knives.
There is a custom knifemaker who build a (the?)custom version of the A/F-folders who's name is Bill Harsey. You can find his work at Arizona custom knives. Mabe he has more info.
Greetings

Hey all-

I just had a bit of e-correspondance with Mr. Harsey (I won't go into details without his permission). But here's the gist: Mr. Harsey has been the (I presume) exclusive custom maker of the Applegate-Fairbairn since 1981, after the colonal's business falling out with Mr. Yancey. No big deal, really.

But I also got the straight dope on his custom. He makes his blades fom 154cm, and heat treats and cryogenically freezes them (in liquid nitrogen), hardening them to 61.5 to 62 (his words). And he said making a sterile knife is no problem. Sweet. It looks like I'll be able to scratch my itch after all.

So, based on your collective experience, is these good specs? I'm not asking about the design (that's a matter of preference). I'm asking about the steel and the treament/hardness. Now, 154cm is a good bit like ATS 34, right? I know a lot of custom makers use it because it's low maintenance. Is that right? It's just that I've read a good many posts here about the advantages of high carbon over stainless. I'm not out to start a flame here. I know that different steels are good for different things. And this is definitely not a chopper or a sharpened crowbar. I don't know... I've always wanted a pure fighter. And lately I've been obsessed (is that the right word?) by the thought of having a good double edged fighter. I can't be alone here, either. Have any of you ever obsessed over your next "toy"? "Oh, sweet anticipation!"

Thanks.
