Has anyone tried running a lighter under the block of CrO and then rub it on? I just tried it and it spreads like hot butter, plus it's much more quicker then waiting for a lamp to heat up the strop.

I just run the crayon all over the strop then use a rag/paper towel to burnish it into the leather.

Good tip. I have read of people shaving some off with a cheese grater into a cup of mineral oil and rubbing that blend into their strop. Never tried it myself but it sounds like it would work.

I rub it on like a crayon, then with either a paper towel or finger and just a little mineral oil, it smooths/spreads it out very easily. It probably works best if you allow it to dry somewhat, but I've used while still a bit wet and it seemed fine.

I've found the best way to apply the stick-type compounds is to lightly sand the surface of the leather, creating a fine suede-like finish. Then just use the compound like a crayon. You don't need a lot of compound - in fact, if you can't see and feel the texture of the leather, you've got too much compound.

When it gets shiny or darkened from metal, scrape off the compound and re-apply.

No heat, no oil, no Goop.
