Not sure how to say this but I'll give it a try.... My most recent knife purchase was a 21 inch Kumar Kobra by Vim (see deals for 6/14/07). I have a small (3) but growing collection of khukuris. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate you all for the supportive, informative and civil tone of this forum. I think this forum is special because of the integrity of Yangdu and the way she runs her company. Besides being hard working tools, HI knives are an education in history, culture, and people. As an example, the Kobra I purchased has a neem wood handle. I did a web search on this wood and was amazed at some of its properties. This made me appreciate my knife even more. Vim did a great job on this knife. I abused (sorry) my other khukuris severely, but they look and work even better than before. I've found over the years that there are knives that look good until you use them hard. The ones I keep are those that get better with use. HI khukuris definitely fall into the latter category. Thanks for listening.

Well put, CB. HI khuks are special as is this forum. I know of no other knife manufacturer that brings together the new, the old, the ancient, the east, and the west like Himalayan Imports. About 5 years ago, I was in the same place as yourself. I was perplexed and amazed that such a fine piece of near-eternal cutlery could be had at such a modest price. Not only was the knife well made, but it was "good". Good in the fact that it was made ethically by proud folks, marketed just as it was with integrity by Uncle Bill and Yangdu, and it even came with a place on the internet that was chalk full of kind and knowledgeable men and women that would answer even my stupidest questions:D This place is unlike any other.
I remember, barely, back when my collection was around 3 pieces. A Kumar made Villager model, a Shanker made 15" AK, and a Kumar made 18" WWII. 5 years and 40 some odd pieces later, I still have a love for these knives:thumbup:

Welcome, friend!

Steely Gunz,
Exactly. Thanks.... I'm passionate about many types of knives, but HI khuks fall into a special breed. There's the rich historical factor and ethics behind them. For folks like us, it makes it really adds to the education and enjoyment of being a knife nut. Thanks for the welcome.

Well said CB.

I think it's the same reasons that makes us hang in here and buy HI khuks.

Great knives, great people.

I forget who it was, but someone once said, "Come for the Khuks, stay for the Kooks.":p :D
