Hello. Like many of you, I have knives that are relatively inexpensive through knives that are relatively expensive. I recently purchased a Rockstead Higo II and a couple of higonokamis. I have some experience with Rockstead knives and the Higo II in ZDP-189 is exactly as I expected and I like it very much.
However, I'm surprised at how much I like the higonokamis. They are very "simple" knives. The two I purchased were more expensive due to having Aogami steel blades that are obviously better ground and finished than less expensive ones.
I've been working with the smaller of the two (even out the bevels, sharpened, polished, etc.). It is VERY sharp. I'm really impressed with the blade/steel. The knife itself is very basic, but the blade is very good so far. I'll evaluate its edge retention and get a better idea of how it performs.
I have owned Roselli knives and the regular carbon steel "Carpenter" is a great little fixed blade Very simple/basic. I really enjoyed using them. I've gifted them.
I read about Mora classic basic fixed blades and how well they sharpen and are great everyday user knives. Likewise, I have an old Western fixed blade that has a very good carbon steel blade that sharpens up very well and is a great everyday user.
I just wanted to express my appreciation for simple, relatively inexpensive knives. They can work very well and not cost a lot of money.
Best regards and God bless.
