I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the general expertise I read in posts on this forum. I know you guys are all about R.A.T. knives, but I also appreciate the posts that have to do with equipment, techniques and methods of survival, and just good-to-know, fartin' around in the woods, info that you all post. In that capacity, this forum rivals Wilderness & Survival, which is also an awesome forum for information.

Just wanted to say that, and to thank you all for the continuing education. I don't think there's been one time when I've visited this forum and haven't learned something.

One thing you’ll start to notice is that in a lot of cases we aren’t all about RAT knives, but knowledge and learning new skills. RATs are tools (and very good tools IMO) but even Jeff himself is about knowledge, not gear. I’ve learned a lot of SKILLS here that have made me more confident in the woods. I knew zero about building a good shelter before I came here, and even worse is that I thought I knew something. I learned a lot participating in the shelter building contest, which is exactly why Jeff said he hosted the whole thing in the first place. Someone giving away $600 retail worth of knives just so people get out and LEARN something says a lot about a company to me.

Kits, gadgets, blades and gizmos are all pieces of the puzzle that work together with a good knowledge base. I’m very thankful for the group we have here, I have learned a lot and hopefully I can give others some new ideas.

+1 on the appreciation, I don't post here as much as I do in W&SS, but this is my 2nd home on BF :)

I've learned more before 9am than most people learn their whole life. Its easy to get "stuck" here but in a good way.Its funny when you scroll down the maufacturers forums and see how many people are veiwing which ones and you will notice the number of people here in the RAT forum is usually more than the others by quite a bit. This is the place to be besides over at the straight survival forum.I'm here to stay and also appreciate RAT for keeping their forum alive and not going to the archives like some other good ones did.

That was the goal for this forum from jump. Jeff wanted it to be about more than answering questions about the knives but a learning zone.

My goal, or one of many for 2010, is to refocus myself on prepping and urban survival and take a break from the wilderness stuff.

I'm hoping to be able to bring alot of that here and expand on whats already a great survival forum but geared more to the outdoors.

I think a year from now this will be an even better and more diverse forum! Onward to 2010!
