Some things happend on Bill's forum the other day that I thought deserved my attention here. A customer unwittingly stumbled into a lion's den when he made some rather commercial comments about the stands I was offering for sale. I think the conclusion was that everybody knows he wasn't trying to be commercial (especially since he has no connection to me whatsoever), but merely helpful. Still, it is easy to see how his comments were received the way they were.

In light of these circumstances, I wanted to say that on this forum - anything goes, as long as it's polite. If somebody seems to be doing something wrong, let's give them the benefit of the doubt (unless it's habitual, obviously slanderous or malicious, in which case I'd say . . . Smithers, release the hounds!).

I don't mind discussions about HI products, Cold Steel Products, or anything of the sort. If somebody sells a product that I don't sell, and it meets the need of the Khukuri crowd, by all means - post away! Just be prepared: Expect me to scramble to meet the need of my customers before somebody else does

What I hope to make this forum into is a place where people can ask the group questions, share stories, post pictures, hold debates, tell jokes, and have a good time while learning.

I am the one that thought the approach tacky,at best.We are gentlemen. For those of us subject to the U.C.M.J.,this is enforcable. For others,it is poor taste.

Ghost: You were entirely justified in pointing it out. Although I still believe, as did others who posted in the thread, that we should be more forgiving and less robust in our attacks (habitual offenders excepted), it is good that Big Bob has thick skin - good attribute for a forumite - and the situation is well behind us.

On a brigher note, look out for some good new posts here in the near future, when my latest shipment arrives this week. It contains the WWIII blades and the 20 inch Ang Kholas, both of which I am excited to see.

Craig, sure would like to see a scan of one of those 20 inchers.
And what will be the price?

Did anyone read the post? This would be offensive to anyone.Give me a break.

Ghostsix,

I did not read the post or your response and it doesn't sound like I want to.

What I hear Greg saying is that you were correct that the post was inappropriate but that you might have been able to respond in a more gentle manner by assuming that the individual meant no harm.

I know that there have been times when the same could be said about me and I consider it an appropriate reminder from time to time. Assume that the members of this forum do not intend to be inappropriate or offend and be as gentle as you know how when you point out an oversight.

I'd suggest that we let bygones be bygones. We all have our different ways of responding to things we don't like. Some are more abrupt than others. I'd only suggest that we try to be as tolerant as possible, especially to "first time offenders."

Had it been me who made the post over in the HI forum, the bullets should have flown immediately, as it would be obvious that my intention was to hunt for "sales" over on Bill's forum. But Big Bog had nothing to gain - he was just trying to be helpful.

Mike: Give me until the 22nd, and then start a thread asking for a scan of the 20 inchers. I don't have one yet to scan, but they are due in around the 22nd. I'll post a picture immediately, but it'd sure help if you could remind me.

Thanks.

OK,but"I`M here and you are not going to shut me up!"does not set a receptive tone.

Gee Ghostsix its nice to know you're here protecting us from crass commercialism(i'll certainly be sleeping better now.)Big Bob thanks for the heads up I think your post was fine.

No good deed goes unpunished.

For what it's worth, I put "first time offenders" in quotations because I happen to think that Big Bob's post wasn't a sin either.

But, as Ghost and I have mentioned in private, everybody's entitled to an opinion. And since Big Bog has learned what flys and what doesn't fly over at the HI forum, I don't think he'll be offending anybody "accidentally" in the future. If he is offensive, it'll be because he has a bone to pick.

That being said, I'll shut up now and start a new thread about an email that I received this morning - it was rather baffling and I want your opinion on it.

If James Joyce had had an editor like Rusty, the entire text of _Ulysses_ would have read "Yes."

I had the misfortune to wade through that book,as well as Portrait of The Artist as a Young Man.If you keep your spirit correct, you may do as you wish, and all is well.

I've been plodding through Atlas Shrugged for the past month - all 1200 pages. What would the editor have done to her text?

By the way, my latest shipment, complete with whatever the WWIII blades turned out to be like (praying they were made to order), will be here tomorrow (I may have to wait until Monday to collect, though). Stay tuned for pictures galore - same khukuri time, same khukuri station.

All posts, forum wide, are expected to follow the guidelines that we set up:
http://www.bladeforums.com/rules.html http://www.bladeforums.com/faqs/index.html

Craig, you asked for your own forum in the past and when it was offered, you haven't taken us up on it. If you have your own forum you can guide the behavior set there, but until then, the rules for the Non-Specific forum and other forums remain as they are set: Be nice, no commercial posts in the inappropriate forums, etc.

This forum is not "anything goes", it's for questions for manufacturers. Again, when you are ready for your own forum, we're ready to open it up, and you can guide where the conversations go from there.
