Good morning everyone.

Today marks the 100th anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli in the First World War.

Early on the morning of April 25th, 1915 Allied Forces began the landing of tens of thousands of men on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey as they started the second phase of the campaign to attack the Ottoman Empire of which a very large contingent were the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps otherwise known as the ANZACs.

What followed was an 8 month long war of attrition that cost the lives of nearly countless men on both sides. All told over a half a million men on both sides were either killed or wounded.

The conditions suffered by the soldiers were horrendous as the battle was fought primarily in trenches. There were numerous instances of bravery that have been recognized however in my eyes any man who fought there was considered brave.

This day is considered a sacred day in Australias history and we mark this with very special dawn services of remembrance country wide. I would just like to say to all my Australian, New Zealand, British and French compatriates who can't make it to one of these services to take a few moments today to remember what happened there and the sacrifice that our men made for our countries. I love my country and I will never forget our sacrifice.

LEST WE FORGET

Good on ya springy. A very significant and proud day to be an Australian. just came home from the dawn service where my 5 year old boy wore my grandfathers medals.

Lest we forget.

Thanks for sharing this fellas. Similar to our Memorial Day. That's really neat that your boy can wear those medals.
:salute:
Lest we forget

Yeah Anzac's and British commonwealth countries who fought did everyone proud!

Yeah we have our yearly remembrance Sunday every year to remember those who fought for freedom! And on 11 Nov we have a 2 minute silence. Everyone wears a Poppy as symbol of this with sales going to veterans of all wars and conflicts.

We do the same thing on 11 Nov as well. No matter what I'm doing I always stop at exactly 1100am to pay my respects with a minute silence. Take care Jius, Lest We Forget brother.

Word.

I went to gallipoli years ago... very moving.

Not many of us aussies and kiwis weren't reduced to tears.

Yeah I hear you bro. I had the privilege of visiting the battlefields of Paschendaele and the Tyne Cott War Memorial in Belgium last year. I was physically left in tears at the sheer number of graves and the absolutely monumental amount of names on the massive wall.
