So I finally got ahold of the old version of the aqua salt and was so impressed that i immediately purchased the new version as well. Both are awesome cutters with great handles. The new version is slightly thinner and longer. Its hard to notice unless your looking for it and hold them both close together. The new swedge on the black version is pretty nice, but i prefer the look of the old swedge. I use them primarily for scuba diving, the sheath for the yellow one is semi permanently bolted to my bcd. While waiting at the underwater platform for a class to return, i cut several rope samples i carry with me to practice knot tying. This included monofilament, nylon and cotton marine rope and some kevlar core rope. The aqua salt was a rope eating beast. On land i used them for fruit, meat and assorted plastics i had lying around and they preformed well. One gripe i had was the slick top of the handle where i place my thumb. It was pretty slippery, especially under water. I remedied it by doing a little stippling, now they feel great. This may be my new favorite spyderco design, and my new go to utility knife. I didnt think i could like a knife better than my southfork. The sheath is awesome, retention is good, but tighter on the new sheath. No wobble or rattling when i shake it. The retention is strong enough that it wont come out unless you really want it to. I wish the sheath had slots for rubber straps instead of just the holes.
