I'm considering building or putting together an ar-10.

I'm wondering if anyone has built one? I've built 2 ar-15's but I understand ar-10's are not universal?

Armalite does not fit Dpms and visa versa.

What about Mega?
What about a generic brand upper? For instance will a cmmg upper fit a armalite or Dpms?

Thanks for any info, it's greatly appreciated.

Steve... I can't answer your question (my AR10 if factory ArmaLite), but be sure to consider magazines....ArmaLite mags are proprietary and a little pricey....some of the platforms use metric FAL mags...I don't use my AR10 for competition like I do my AR15s so only have a couple mags

Appreciate the help Les.

I'm wanting to build something besides 5.56. I'm also considering a 7.62x39 AR platform. But I'm reading some of them have feed issues. Especially if you use mil-sup ammo like Wolf which I'd want to be able to use.

I will keep reading whatever info I can pull up.

Thanks
Steve

Look into the .300blackout also, simply swap barrels and you have a .30cal AR, 125gr rounds outperform 7.62x39 and the 6.8spcII, plus you can shoot 220gr subsonic also.
If you build a .308, I'd stick to the DPMS/Stoner platform mainly for the availbitity of accessories and the cheap PMags

btw Rock river just developed a ART platform in 762x39 that uses AK mags, hence solving the feeding issue

So the Rock River lower takes AK mags? I wonder if they sell the lower stripped or complete. But then I couldn't swap any other uppers on that lower. Tho it will probly be dedicated I don't want to loose options.

I'm going to have to google-fu that lower.

I have a DPMS AP4 with a 16" barrel, thing weighs just shy of 10lbs empty. My uncle has a DPMS with a 22" barrel (I beleive) with a full tac rail, that weighs close to 13.5 if I remember right.

They're cool, they make a big ass hole, but they're expensive to shoot (trigger happy :D) and hell on brass. Plus, if you get a Rock River, DPMS, or Armalite, they're pretty much brand specific besides the trigger group, springs, and pistol grip.

Oh, out of a 16" barrel, it's L-O-U-D :D

On a side note, Bushmaster makes a 7.62x39 complete rifle, and I believe they make seperate uppers and lowers.

when building the 308 you need to make sure you get either dpms compatible or armelite compatible. i built mine dpms compatible i used a cmmg lower (mk-3) and all dpms upper parts. the 308 is easyer to build in stead of pounding the roll pins in there threaded so just add lock tight. some parts are interchangeable i have a ar15 buttstock with the proper spring and buffer for 308, im waiting to buy a magpul prs buttstock

the 300blackout ammo is so exspensive i spoke with a builder and he says that was created to shoot with a silencer, i was going to build one but there are no ammo manufactures yet id wait you can load your own but you need to cut some brass and reneck it. my buddy has a 6.8 and it shoots great. ive even seen a 50cal bolt action upper for ar15 and pse sells a cross bow upper theres a million ways to go thats what i like about this platform

really i looked into it a few months ago, i found it on midway for 23 a box plus shipping can you post a link. do you know how the rifle performs with that ammo? and feed issues or problems with the large load creating a filthy gun. im thinking it might be a fun round to hunt hogs
