AR/GB Bolsters...possible?

I remembered seeing a knife that Mick posted, it was the one with many knives they had been developing. One of them had some nice Titanium bolsters.

Guess this is a questions the shop could only answer...Would it be possible to purchase an AR then send it back in to have the G-10 scales shortened and a pair of Ti bolsters installed? Maybe with a diagonal slant when it meets up with the G-10 rather than just a vertical line.

Anyone else be interested in this as well?

You're not suppose to ask questions that I can't answer :) Hmmm, to be honest I don't know if there is a practical reason for bolsters, anyone else know? But they sure do look nice if done right :D

Erm my impression is that, originally, on knives that used stag/wood/other natural materials, bolsters were used to provide a solid steel anchor for the pivot pin, and prevent catastrophic failure of the pivot area during heavy use...

... but I think in this world of Micarta, G10, even FRN, that for the most part bolsters would be for appearances. At least, that's why _I_ like them.

Bolsters ARE just for appearance and they're just another piece to break or to weaken the structural integrity of the knife. Go with solid handle slabs and G10.

The original intent of bolsters was to keep blood and crap from getting under the handle and rusting the knife.
That was back in the days when ALL handles were made of natural materials.
Now they are mostly for looks.

We well do some with bolsters some day. You would have better luck getting some one to retro fit it though.

Thanks

Mick
