Anyone have experience with 277 wolverine?

Pros, cons?

Ballistics?

I'm thinking about building one, and looking for information.

I might would suggest looking into the .224 Valkyrie. It seems to have a lot more traction and the terminal ballistics seem superior.

The Valkyrie maintains stability even after going transonic.

Just food for thought, because calibers are like golf clubs. It all depends on what you need, or think you will need.

Heard of it in passing but nothing that made it really stuck out for me as something to add to my lineup.

I’m personally having an ADM 224 Valkyrie built up. Recoils like a 5.56 and stays supersonic beyond 1000 yards and viable out to 1300 and only needing a bolt and barre swap from a normal AR.

Lot of it just depends on what your end goals are. Long range low recoil, 224 is a nice option but it also won’t impart the same kinetic energy at that distance as a 6.5CM will.

If you reload, go for it. Worst case scenario, you buy a 5.56 barrel to replace the 277 Wolverine one.

I have seen good barrels like LaRue, FN, Faxon, ect, under $250. Less on sale.

The reason I'm not looking at the Valkyrie is I want to use standard mags, etc for now.

I'm open to the idea, though.

Refresh my memory, do the 6.8 class calibers use standard lowers?

I have plenty of reloading equipment

Edit to add... It seems that there would be many more bullet choices, weight wise with 277 cal vs 224 cal

I can see it really gaining popularity. All it needs is a barrel swap. Uses all existing 5.56 parts.
Looks like you will be able to make brass out of 223 cases

Littlehoot, 6.8spc does use a standard lower(different bolt, barrel and mags). I have been using a 6.8spc 12.5" sbr and 16" rifle and love them. I also have the same set ups in 6.5grendel that I primarily use on the range($250 a case for wolf is hard to beat).

That's what I thought

Yea standard lower different bolt and barrel. Pretty much you just buy a complete upper and throw is on a standard AR lower. You can technically use the same 5.56 mags, but it’s gonna be kinda like 300 BO, they won’t stack right, won’t be a full 30, etc. good thing is, Magpul makes 6.8 mags so they are abundant and cheap. Ammo is also priced very well on it too.

Aren't the Magpul 6.8's specific to the LWRC SIX8 lower (i.e., won't fit a standard AR lower)?
