AR or GB?

I am getting ready to place an order with Strider for a folder. I have looked on the internet at AR's and GB's. I see the distinct difference in blade design but at far as function, why would you pick one blade over the other one? Also has anyone had any experiences with any of the coated blades as opposed to the TS or blasted blade. Looking to stay away from the TS just in case it lands in court so I don't have to see the jury peering at it clutching their chest in shock at the looks of the thing. Thanks for the help.

Todd762, there is nothing inherently sinister about the Tiger Stripe finish. Someone said that the TS pattern is to show respect for and honor the endangered species. (Don't ask who it was that said that). And that's the main reason I opted for the TS. ;)

Another thread mentioned that the TAD special ARs (and GBs?) may have black coated blades. If corrosion is a concern for you, that may be a nice option.

Do you EXPECT to land in court? If you're all that worried about it, any AR/GB, TS or not, might scare the heck out of some people. Zach has a non-TS AR. It looks bigger than my TS AR. If you're worried about scaring a jury, you might consider getting a Swiss Army knife. No sarcasm intended, BTW. You DO have rights.

Umm...Get both :D

That way you will always have one when you send the other one to get coated or worked on. It's what I've done.

I agree with Sidewinder. Just get both.:D

I had the same problem. Which one to get. It's a tuff decision, they are both outstanding folders that will last you a life time.

If you are looking for a self defense tool get the GB. If your looking for a multi purpose tool get the AR.

I carry both.

Both, of course. Strider users are not allowed to have any excess cash laying around and you should also max out the Visa. After a payment is made it is expected that you start looking at your next purchase. Any further questions can be sent to my home under the boardwalk in Asbury Park :D ec

I have never handled, or seen, a GB. Now that I own an AR, a GB sounds like a good idea.

Is the front edge of the GB dull (or duller) than the main edge, much like the Buck-Strider Mini-Strider? That Buck I have owned, and that edge was sharpened at a very blunt angle.

The front grind is a lot steeper than the main edge grind, and has a more polished edge. It feels duller because of the steeper grind angle, and less "toothy" edge.

I still touched the front edge up a bit, at about a 30 degree (per side) angle, and it is noticeably sharper.

I don't think you would want to re-profile the front edge to match the angle of the main grind, or you would loose the durability and edge retention that this tanto blade was designed to have.

I just got a GB (tigerstriped). I like it a lot, but it does tend to rust really quickly on me, so I would recommend getting a coated one.
