Hey all, i've peaked some interest in the idea of an AR pistol.

Any experiences, or recommendations?

My big question is, i already own an AR-15. Does this mean that i can't own an AR pistol simultaneously, since technically, i could swap out the lowers and make the AR pistol an SBR?

and feel free to post your AR-pistol porn!

I have a Kel-Tec PLR-16 which is a .223 pistol. I don't think that is what you are looking for since you have posed an interchangeability question. To me the Keltec is more of a novelty firearm than a serious one.

They are LOUD! Go check out the specific forum on ar15.com for all the gory details on barrel lengths, buffers, comps, legal issues, etc.

maybe it is exactly what i'm looking for.

in other words, i want to stay legal. i *don't* want anyone to perceive owning my AR-15 and AR-pistol as something that could potentially become an SBR. 10-years in prison no thank you.

on top of that, i'm moving to Massachusetts soon, and i haven't even thought about the legality of these things in the northeast...

Constructive Intent is only an issue when you own an SBR upper and NO pistol lower. Some local jusisdictions have weird local laws though so you should check out where you are moving to first.

I would not take legal info from friends.. more so online friends. However everything I have dug up states as long as you have a registered pistol lower (some may argue the lower is "stripped" being fine as well), and an lower for each upper you are fine. Some have made points where you cold have a few differnt uppers for your one lower and that it was a big no no. I just played the safe route and bought a prebuilt pistol by RRA. As for use... its a range toy and a fun one at that. The fireball that it threw was HUGH, stuck a Noveske pig on it, and now its a flame thrower. The brake does add a bit of weight to it, and makes it a little longer. VFG are also a no no unless you register it as a AOW. When I get back from Iraq I will be registering one or so of my spikes lowers and getting a few more uppers for it (a 10" 5.7 upper looks like fun), but right now I only have the 16" 5.7 which is ALOT of fun with the 50rd magazines.

i'm jealous, spoolup, and thanks everyone for their input.

and you're right, typically it's not a good idea to take legal advice from anyone other than a lawyer.

that being said, i did some digging, and from what i understand, *no* AR-15 or AR-variants in massachusetts. so that kind of busted my bubble. :(

i can keep the AR that i've got now, but from what i understand i need to remove the flash hider and pin the collapsing stock, and i'm limited to owning 10 round magazines. i think there are stricter guidelines that i'm missing here, but i'll keep doing research on the subject.

:( no AR. or "assault rifles" that were defined by the old Brady bill ban.

nevertheless, i'm still interested in your experiences with AR pistols. maybe some day.

Thats not all of them, think I am up to 14 now but sold some as well. As for "online questions answered" check out AR15.com in the ar pistol section. Here is a few links I just scanned over for your viewing pleasure. If you dont mind me asking, why move from TX to MA?

That last one got me thinking, maybe I should buy the 5.7 10" upper. One of my other ones, I even mention it in the post. 5.7x28, uses FNH PS90 50rd mags, ammo is not too badly priced, and even during the ammo shortage period we are just recovering from its the one caliber I could always find. Hell I had to hunt to find 22lr a few times. SAD.

yup yup. i've been stationed at fort leonard wood, fort sill, and fort hood (and iraq) for a long time. trying to move to the city to start over something new. who knows. life is an adventure.

and a better adventure if i get to keep my AR and hi-cap glocks.

;)

thanks for the input.

First, thank you for your service and Im glad you were safe in Iraq. While in MA you have a great chance to explore the history of America, I was in Boston in 99 for a 96 hour weekend (Marine on long weekend from Lejeune). Roommates mother had a studio above the AE store near Copley square. The big dig was just ending and traffic was a mess, but even during these few days I seen alot neat things, Payl Reevers grave and home, Cheers (both since the outside and inside are neighboring bars), between home plate and 1st base at Fenway park is a neat little resteraunt, reminds me of the place in "the mask" with Jim Carrey. Did a ducktour, and a bunch of other things. Quite a tour of history.

I am heading to Iraq first week of Oct, this time as a contractor, so it shall be a bit nicer and better paying. Good luck on your adventures and travel, and again thank you for your service.

hey, best of luck to you brother, and be safe over there. from one vet to another, all the best.
