G'day fellas, I have been diligently saving my overtime up for a AR folder and Emerson Knives has gone and thrown a spanner in the works by making a Super Commander - same size as the ES1M. I am tossing up which one to get, I cant afford both.

My qustions are:

How long is the CUTTING edge on the AR. I know the blade is 4 inches long and it seems alot of the blade is taken up with the finger choil.

How heavy are these babys? Are they that much heavier than the BUCK version?

From pictures I've seen the blade sits in the handle very close to the locking liner - Does the blade rub on the liner at all when opening?

What do you guys thing of the new grind linds on the AR - I'd prefer the older style myself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Peter

I personally love the AR's (and GB's for that matter). Right now, they are the biggest, no nonsense folders on the market. It is big, in every way. I'm not shure of the length of the cutting edge, but it is less than the entire blade length. According to the Strider guys, the new flat grind is better in every way. I've owned, and let go :( 2 hollow ground AR's and currently own a newer flat ground GB. Strider's aren't for everyone, but if you want a folder that you can be sure won't let you down, these are them.

Ah, Super Commander or AR...

I was going to get a Super Commander but I found out that the lock liner thickness has not changed from their current issue. To me, the liner is a little thin. Besides, the Super Commander is not a lot bigger than the existing Commander. Now if your are talking a '98 Commander that would be a different story.

The thing about the Commander that I like best is the Wave feature. It is by far the fastest draw of any folder out there. The recurve blades stlye is nice as well.

The AR is simply just the bomb when it comes to tough folders. If you want a user that is going to be put to hard use, I would not hesitate to get an AR. Once you feel the AR you will not want to let go of it.

In my opinon, the commander is a great knife, but more defensive in nature and design...however the AR would be more suited for normal use, although it's big. So if you want something to carry around with you everywhere and only use for defense, go for the super commander. If you want a knife you can use for defense, but is not as flat as a commander, but is essentially a folding fixed blade, go for the AR.
the blade on the super commander is probably a bit longer, cutting edge wise.
both should be great, but it depends on what you want to do with it.
cheers,
Derek

IMHO Do not use a Commander '98 or '00 series. My 1998 failed and injured me. Mt friends 2000 version failed multiple times. Both were sent back (2000 twice) and quickly gotten rid of upon return. A suggestion....end of story.
