I am thinking of adding a rail system handguard to my m&P15 and I am thinking either LaRue or Daniel Defense Omega rail, what do you think?

Personally I think they are worse than useless as they encourage you to hang unnecessary junk on your rifle. They provide lots of sharp angles and corners to catch on stuff (nothing like trying to perform a stealth entrance and having the curtain cord on the patio doors get tangled up in your rifle). Unless this is the look you are going for that is....lol...

It depends on what you need (or want) to mount. If it's just a light, then a little piece of rail attached to the stock handguards would be a better choice.

On other hand, if you want to use a vertical foregrip and or have a lot of other junk you want to mount, a railed handguard is a better choice. Right now, I think the DD Omega is the best value on the market. It's incredibly light, has built-in sling swivel attachment points, and it's so easy to install that even I was able to do it. Of the two-piece free-float railed handguards, it's the top of the food chain.

What he said ;). There are little pieces that of rail that can be attached to your standard guards, unless you are looking to add all kinds of toys 360 degrees on your rifle :p.

Actually if there was a handguard that just had rail on the top thats all I need, I would cover 90% 0f the rail anyway with those plastic rail guards. The fat part of the handguard by the collar is just a little higher than the top of the rail so I am pretty sure I cant put my eotech far enough forward to mount my flip up rear site (I will find out today when it arrives) I might add a bipod mount on the bottom as needed but it wouldnt be a permanent addition. I dont even think I will add a light at least not for a long time.

If only looking for a rail on top, consider the Badger Ordnance:

I have one(as well as the DD Omega :) ) and like it very much. Nice fit and comfort for left hand support, you remove two screws at the rear to slide forearm off of retaining nut for gas tube replacement.. It does require removal of old barrel retaining nut and install of the Badger unit. BAdger also sells "mini" rails that can be bolted on the bottom or sides- lets you mount a device without having alot of leftover rail in the way. the only downside to them is the weight, they are appreciabley heavier than most of the other options. Price is pretty decent at under 200.00. I find them used sometimes for under 125.00.
I have used these on AR15' as well as AR10's while I am sure they could be bent/damaged by dropping out of a helo.... that is not a problem for me. They have stood up to above normal abuse on my rifles with no problems.

Brownells also carries the Badger.

For the "pretty" guns, I like the DD stuff.

For the SHTF gun, get a nice set of the oval-shaped M4 guards. They're way more comfortable than the railed guards, and no worries about catching on your clothing or the curtains during super-ninja-stealth-mode. :p:D You can mount a light with a small rail piece if you need it.

i guess thats why the US military uses so many of them?

some folks do go overboard lol, but if ya want lites/lasers/optics on an A2/foregrip the 4 rail HG is the way to go. imho a lite, eotech or aimpoint, maybe a foregrip are all good additions if ya use your rifle like i do. really w/a 4 rail the foregrip is a must have FWIW.

i have used surefire and samson and prefer the samson, ist also cheaper.

anything by larue is gonna be good.

I just figured out I dont need one, there is JUST enough room for the EO and the flipup, so I am kinda glad I dont have to buy one!

If you just want one rail (or want to add more later), you a couple of manufacturers make freefloat tubes that accept pieces of rail wherever you want it. Yankee Hill has one, as does JP.
