AR Rifle or Build in NY?

Blah Blah, yes ANOTHER AR15 thread. I've decided that I need an AR, but, living in NY makes it difficult. I've looked on-line and found models that get me around the collapsible stock and bayonet lug issues, but the tough one is the flash suppressor. It seems like pretty much every AR15 model out there has either a threaded barrel or a fixed flash suppressor, both of which are no-no's. I understand that it can have a muzzle break or recoil compensator, but I haven't been able to find any models with fixed versions of these. There are some nice bull-barreled target versions out there, but I was looking for a bit of a lighter rifle, since I already have a tack driver Remington 700 LT. Can anyone help?

Find a gun shop in your state that's "black gun" friendly. I live in Calif. and have similar issues. I found a local gun shop which the owners are fully updated on what can/can't be sold in my state. I asked them a bunch of questions and told them what features I liked and didn't like on an AR rifle, and they said they'd come up with a legal configuration for me. My biggest criteria is that I want it in .308. The shop closest to my home that I use all the time wanted no part in selling me an AR type rifle. I realize that this may not be feasible depending on where you live, but worth a try even if you have to drive 90 minutes to get there. It's a big purchase and you want to get it right the first time.

www.thegunzone.com click on the gov't model 45. Should take you to main street magazine. Locate NYS penal law sec 265. If the Rifle was manufactured prior to Sep 13, 2004 it is legal to have flash hider bayo lug and hi capacity mag as long as the mag was also manufactured prior to Sep 13, 1994 the way I understand it. gunbroker.com is your best bet. An individual owner can ship to you local FFL. Make sure you get a true pre Sep 13, 1994 rifle.

I have a DPMS LR-308B. I think you can get it with barrel ported on these or they may have a barrel ported already.

When I was there I purchased two Bushmasters with fixed Muzzle Breaks and standard A2 Stocks, they are carbines with a total of 16inch barrles because when the muzle break is pinned it counts as part of the barrel. I bought mine in western NY but I saw them in Northern NY too!

Speak to Hank. They have an excellent selection, and Hank will get you exactly what you want.

Since you can't seem to find a rifle that meets your criteria I suggest just building it. Get yourself a lower and lower parts kit, and then find an upper that you like. Check out this website. www.bravocompanyusa.com All their stuff is top notch.

Is looking for a pre-ban lower a viable option? How does one go about finding one and what kind of premiums do they bring?

Good suggestion here... my local laws (Check yours) only make you "Register" or "Document" the lower. I can order a complete Upper online with no Gov. Paperwork, there are TONS of uppers out there that will suit your needs.
