ArborNovo knives?

A buddy of mine is in the market for a hand made pocket knife but he knows almost nothing about them I know not much more. He sent me a link to their website, I don't know if I'm allowed to post site links, especially being so new to the forum but I wanted to ask for him. He supposedly met the guy and said the owner went though his process and all of that but I thought the website looked a little leery to me and are possibly just production knives being passed off as handmade.

Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I have no knowledge of that maker, but I Googled them up, went to the web site, and found no pocket knives. Just a lot of fixed blades. I share your misgivings about the site.

Well, here's the thing, I looked at their site, and they say "We hand-forge and handcraft durable, eco-friendly premium Damascus steel knives and woodenware , all made in the USA". But I took a look at one of the knives they are selling, a "Damascus" folding knife (first pic below), and it's virtually identical to a lot of other knives being sold all over the internet, sometimes for a fraction of the price that Arbor Novo is selling them for, with some openly stating that they are from Pakistan. See other pics below.

I get the distinct feeling that Arbor Novo is doing what a lot of vendors in the US do, they buy cheap Pakistani knives and sell them as "custom", "handmade" "made in the USA", etc, and sometimes putting their own markings on them (or having the Pakistani's do it).

I wouldn't buy a knife from them with your money.

And here are just a few examples from other vendors-

LOL stay away from that mess.

Check out some of the vendors in the forums here and buy a real tool.
Lol, awesome, thanks guys! As much as I suspected. I initially told him they looked like cheap production knives to me but he had me second guessing myself. He was making an appointment to visit their shop. This will save him some time and headache. Greatly appreciated, thanks again!

LOL at the placement of that thumbstud alone. Seriously?

But, yet another stark reminder that people with little knowledge of a particular field are easily fooled. (I'm having second thoughts about that 100 mpg carburetor that works with a 50/50 mix of fuel and water. Not enough space in the trunk for that thing anyway.)
