Hello,

I'm going to pick up an Arc Lite and the Cuda EDC. I was planning on getting just the standard 420HC steel (i think thats what it is), but now am considering D2 in one of them. Do you think I should go with D2 at all? If so which one. The EDC will get more use, as the arc lite will be my backup. Thanks

Nick

The EDC now comes in 154-CM as the standard for around $50. If you are interested in trying D2 steel get the Arc Lite in D2, and EDC in 154-CM. I think that the 154-CM EDC should serve you well as a utility blade, but I have not gotten one yet.;)

I picked up those 2 pieces for carrying exactly how you described. The EDC was in 154CM and the ArcLite was 420HC. The combo made sense practically and economically. I'd say for the money I spent, I could not have gotten 2 knives of better caliber anywhere else.

The thing that I really like about the pair is that the blade profile is so similar that you become very adept at sharpening both blades. I can just about sharpen both and cook an omelet at the same time.

As far as the D2 thing goes, I reasoned it away. You could give me one EDC in D2, one in 154CM, and one in 420HC and I doubt I could tell you which one is which, even after use. So I just went with the least expensive way to go. With the EDC, both 420HC and 154CM were the same price either way, so it was a gimme to get the better steel.

Welcome to the forums. You've made an excellent decision. Be sure and get 'em from 1SKS and yer in the berries.

D2 is only a semistainless steel, so if you plan on keeping it/them in the hot & sweaty places, 420HC and 154CM are better suited for that.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm gonna go with the standard blade over the D2. By the way, what is 1SKS?

1 Stop Knife Shop...

just type in your url slot... 1sks.com

and lo and behold an entire universe of high speed, low drag... slicker than owl snot cutlery opens up... sorta like when Harry Potter steps into Diagon Ally...

I almost busted in my pants when I first saw the site.:D

Also, I think that blade material is extremely important especially when you're going to be out in the field... Performance first... rust prevention can be taken care of with a tiny bit of oil... If you venture out into the wilderness, I'm sure you can find a spot in your luggage for a tiny bottle of oil. This is especially so if you venture out into the woods with a firearm. I would rather have an ATS-34 or equivalent knife and a bottle of mili-tech, than two knives with lesser steels.

I read that Mike at wowinc.com had the 154cm version at around 40 bucks, but they all sold out.

Anyone knows where else can get such a good bargain?
