I want to try a knife with arc lock. I have 2 SOGS with sat opening and I love them, but the arc lock seems cool to. What do you guys suggest? The vulcan has a point that sticks out of the back for "kick deployment" does that get in the way when your opening and closing it fast?

The arc lock is great. I have a mini x ray vision and it is very quick in one handed opening and closing. The lock seems to be very strong as well. Great locking system IMO.

I don't have a Vulcan. Wouldn't mind getting one, though. :)

I checked the website on it at http://sogknives.com/store/VL-01.html and from what I read, "kick deployment" is pressing the back of the blade when the knife is closed and it will release it to snap open (an assist). The point you see is a flipper. You should be able to pull back on that and have it snap open also. It will definitely NOT get in the way for opening or closing.

I had a Vulcan for a couple of days. I bought it at local sporting goods store. It is a beautiful knife. I returned it sadly as after plating with it I noticed a problem that I hope was just a defect in the sample I had. The flipper worked too well. The clip was point up only and there is no safety to keep it shut. Very little pressure on the flipper would open the blade, like catching on the edge of your pants pocket. Also when closed the tip is too close to the edge and can prick your finger when closed. The Arc-lock worked perfectly though. As soon as I returned the Vulcan I ordered a Tomcat (no flipper). I do have both Twitch II & Twitch XL knives with flippers that work perfectly. Both also have a safety lock which because the spring tension works so well on these knives I only use when storing the knives. In short I love the flipper and the Arc-lock, I would just want to handle the Vulcan in person before I buy another one.
