What's the deal with these?

I've read a lot of people saying "wow, they're great", but not really seen anyone say WHY they like them so much.

What gives? What's the appeal?

Mike

Absolutely the most compact light that will properly drive the 1 watt Luxeon. A Surefire E1e with Luxeon KL1 head is huge beside it. It is a great sub-compact light. The high dome throws farther, the low dome would be a better task light. The -P means a higher quality Luxeon. They vary quite a bit in color and brightness. Recommended - Lee

You should see the CPF people raving about these...

It's almost enough to drive me to buy one...:D

I think the best thing going for it is it's compactness.

If you weren't too particular about carry, you could buy a BB400 Q3L mod for the Maglite which costs less than half the price of the Arc LSH-P; brighter and has an LED of equal quality (although it *is* a low dome), and runs on cheaper batteries.

Why? Compact/bright/white(whitest)/clickable/lanyard and pouch friendly/fine workmanship/true warranty/cool look/good runtime/
what else?

The only thing that needs to be improved is the Lexan lens.

go to CPf and read my post from about a week ago..."If you need convincing"...I would link it but I am too lame. These are awesome lights. Mine lights up to 100'!!! with a surefire type beam...nice hot spot decent corona..ps I am Mr. Blue overthere for some strange whim I cant recall now...geoff

I was going to order one, but I just realized I have 2 E1's and and E1e. I had stuck an E1 in my travel kit and forgotten about it.

So maybe a KL1 makes more sense for me.

Compared to the Surefire KL1, many CPF members reported the ARC LSH-P as bright or brighter. Typically whiter, also, due to the premium quality Luxeon LED. I appreciate their compact size and greater consistency over the Surefires. They're expensive to be sure, but as a long-term investment, LED lights are a smart buy if they fit your application.

KL1's are fine. Great regulation and decent output. BUT, they are very purple and really "prefer" (IMHO) a 2 cell source like the E2. I was pleased as punch with my E2+KL1 but, the LSHP blows it away for useful beam, brightness and color. If you like 123 batts, you will like the LSHP I think...also, if by chance you get an off color one, your dealer will make you good. For AA batts, the CPF "sandwich" shop is the place to buy "badboy" inserts fro your mag or Brinkmann lights

I have an LSH-P, an E1e and E2e and a KL1 (and an M2 and a bunch of ARC AAAs)

The LSH-Ps have hand-picked Luxeon Star emitters that have a high rank. The papers that came with mine said it is a Q rank Q4 I think. The regular LSs have lower ranked emitters.

If I understand correctly, the manufacturer of Luxeon Star emitters, Lumileds, ranks them based on brightness and color (whiter = better).

FWIW my LSH-P cost me $114 through a www.candlepowerforums.com member only deal. www.newgraham.com has them for $119 right now.

So why did I spend over $100 on a flashlight?

1. I am a junky. (The first step toward recovery is admitting you have a problem ;) )

2. I have the money.

3. My LSH-P is more pocketable than my E1e/KL1. This is a significant issue for EDC.

4. My LSH-P is noticeably brighter than my E1e/KL1.

5. My LSH-P is noticeably whiter than my E1e/Kl1, which has a discernable blue tint.

Now I have to figure out why I'm willing to spend over $100 on an EDC light but not over $300 on an EDC knife (i.e. a Sebenza)

While there is no question that the ARC is a fine product, for the same money referenced in the last post one can have both an E2e and KL1 which offers a great deal of flexibility in terms of ones lighting requirements, both incadescent as well as LED.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind owning one but when I looked at one over at Larry Brahms' (bladeart.com) recently, I wasn't overwhelmed nor did I feel that my E2e was in any way lacking.

Then again, my flashaholism hasn't caught up with my edge addiction.

Yea, but I already HAD an E1e/KL1 :D Seriously, you are right of course. My E1e, E2e and KL1 are a great little "system."

Theres a guy over at CPF who drilled out a KL1 head and modified it to accept an Opalec Newbeam (regulated 3-LED drop-in that gives 10 hours of constant light in a 2AA Maglite). I'm thinking of doing the same with one of my EXe heads. Then my "system" would really cover a wide range of lighting needs from long burn time to tactical

There's another guy at CPF who is modifying 120 lumen P61 high output lamp assemblies from the 1.25" bezel SureFires to fit in a modified EXe head  I think that mod would only work with an E2e.

I'm with Blues on this one, sorta. I like the KL1 head on the E1E, because it has **close** to the same output as the plain E1. The E2 is a completely different animal, and has some blinding potential @ 60 lumens. I'm most fond of the A2, since I get the best of both worlds in one package. A long lasting LED tasklight and a blinding Xenon bulb. Granted the three LEDs in the A2 don't produce as much light as the ARC, but most of the time you don't need that in a task light. The ARC is a great little light, and it's versatile with the ability to eat much cheaper AA batteries with the different bodies, but it is pretty expensive for what you get.

I have both the LSHP and the E1e/KL1 combo. KL1 is fine. LSHP is great! They are pricy 'coz the LS leds are hand picked and only 10%
of the leds recieved from Lumiled are accepted and the rest are all sent back.
