ARC4 Premium LED

I have one and I really love it. Very versatile and big on the gadget factor. You can read about the specs on CPF posted by people who are experts (I'm just a novice in flashlights) so I won't get into those. I'll just try to explain why I love this light.

You can preset 2 different levels (anyone of 16) so you can choose which brightness is best for your uses. Just double click to move between levels. I set mine at about the level of the LS (another great Arc light) and the other just bright enough to see my kids faces when checking on them at night, but not bright enough to disturb them. You can also hold down the switch to go to the highest level or triple click to go to the lowest. Basically you have quick access to 4 levels. The light even senses your "clicking speed" and adjusts to it. The software can be updated and the price of the premium includes one free upgrade, sans shipping.

There are many of other features (sos, tactical setting, ect) and although most people won't use most of them it is great to set up your light the way you want to use it.

There are two bad design points (IMHO). You can't stand the light on its end, for hands free use and there is no easy to use lockout. There is one, but in my opinion it is too awkward for easy use. You can use the semi tactical feature (this requires a double click to turn the light on) but if you carry it in your pocket I can see it still turning on by itself (a few people have complained about this on CPF). As I don't EDC the light, I don't have a problem.

You also might want to check out the Firefly. A small, powerful light that is not as high tech as the Arc 4 but is about to be produced in a limited run (check out http://www.candlepowerforums.com/ubbthreads/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=MODS)

I hope this is useful to you.

There's a passaround of an ARC 4 second, but I can give youmy summary here:

- To little light
- To high a price
- A menu system that is a PIA, unless you a pefectionist masochist, then you'll love it.

My reccomendation save your moenya nd buy a more power light, like the surefire L4.

Ive got both the Pelican M6 and M6 LED. These lights live in the briefcase.

I am looking for a small pocketable EDC light.

I am looking at the Arc-LS premium and ARC-4.

They are kind of bright.

If you want to wait Inova should be out shortly with a 1 watt Luxeon - 1 AA model.

To repeat Dave's rec of the Surefire L4. It is a beaut of a light. For ~ the same $ as the LSH and ARC4.
You won't go wrong with the Arc LSH either but the L4 is in a league of it's own.
2x123 batts and a killer beam. It's probably the only production LED I'd buy.
Tho I'm waiting to see what my MrBulk VIP has in store for me :)

I am not crazy about the L4 because of the battery life. 1 hour per set of batteries is too short for me.

The pelican M6 LED is my primary flashlight due to its LED bulb, brightness and long battery life. If I need something really bright, I have the M6 Lithium, but I have found that I don't need the brightness most of the time.

I am currently looking for a small pocketable flashlight as a EDC, so the ARC LSH and ARC-4 are on the top of my list.

I have the Arc 4+, but don't use it that much. I find it to be more of a hassle than I normally feel like dealing with. My EDC is an LSH-P with a twisty tail cap. I love it because: a) it is dependable and very simple to use; b) it's small enough that I can carry it everywhere (I use an Arc belt sheath).

I also have the Sure Fire L4, which I love. Awesome light. However, it's a tad too big to EDC with a suit (my normal business attire).

My dream flashlight would be an LS sized product that can put out as much light as an L4.

I guess I'm not asking for much, huh? :D

An L4 (though I don't have one- I have an E2e) might be too bright for many uses. Outdoors, it is probably great, but a user like me (living in a city) may have a bigger need for a versatile light. In January we went skiing. We took an overnight bus and the lights were off for most of the trip. I had to do some things (including check the kids). Using the Arc 4, I was able to use the smallest power and not disturb anyone else. If I had used an L4... Yes you can carry more than one light, but it is great to have one in your pocket that will be good in most situations.
The Arc4 may be difficult to use at first it is very easy to use once you get used to it.
