Was surfing the net and found this very interesting article in the Kingsport Time News. It is dated today, March 7th, 2006. What blew my mind was how Mr. Ferguson and Mr. Taylor are going to hand out 150 Chinese made schrade knives to our troops. Being a former USMC Devil Dog, I know most of my fellow Marines would tell both of them what they could to do with their knives once they found out where they were made. That along with the fact that they (Taylor) act like the knives are being made in the good ole USA would anger just about any red blooded AMERICAN solider. This type of stuff just makes me sick at my stomach. I was speaking to a gentleman this afternoon at an ACE Hardware store and he stated that a Taylor Rep. had him believing that Schrade was still being produced here in the U.S.A. I educated him on where most of the knives were being made at to the best of my knowledge. He said that he will do his best not to sell any China made knives in his store. Cool!

By all accounts the Chinese imports are inferior to the original American-made products. But it's important to point out that Schrade themselves were having some of their products made in China before going out of business.

And some of the Taylor products are made in the USA. The Schrade-Walden branded line for instance, is contract-made from another American manufacturer.

Good points both. But giving a knife to soldier is pretty easy for any of us. I can promise you, any soldier, anywhere will appreciate the gift of one of our highly valued, original USA Schrades. Remember, the knife doesn't have to be a 'tactical' or combat model... Any folder would be perfect. Start out here at this thread:

I do my own knife donations to the troops on a more personal level. Sadly, it is not all the difficult to find a friend, friend of a friend, neighbor, relative bound for a combat zone.. or to service anywhere else in the world.

I don't think it is splitting hairs to point out that the knives branded Schrade-Walden are not Taylor products, but SFO's for SMKW made by Camillus and Bear and Son. SMKW pays Taylor for the use of the trademarked name, but that is the only connection. As far as I can tell, all products sold by Taylor under the Schrade trademarks are special factory orders from Chinese manufacturers. SMKW could have done the same thing but did not. They chose to have quality products made domesticly and are still selling them at reasonable prices. I only wish they were date marked or otherwise identified as to their origin. IMHO, the products made in China should plainly carry a stamp stating just that.

After reading the above post from mountaineergoldnblue, I went on and read the above article. From reading the article I found this very commendable of Mr. Ferguson and Mr. Taylor. From reading this aritcle Mr. Ferguson had wanted to visit the Walter Reed Medical Center and entertain our wounded soldiers. Mr. Taylor was willing and happy to support/fund this. I found the article to be very positive.

If you look for the bad in people you can surely find it, however, I was taught to look for the good. I hope Mr. Ferguson's statement that he will visit each room will happen.

All I am saying is that if you are going to honor our troops please do it with an honest & loving heart. If that is what Mr. Ferguson & Mr. Tayor are doing, then I say Gods speed. Just don't turn this into a publicity thing about Mr. Ferguson or to sell Chinese made schrade knives. The article clearly states that Mr. Ferguson has been signed as Imperial Schrade celebrity & pro-staff advisor. I wonder how much if anything he is getting paid to do this. My family & I are going to Ambato Ecuador on a mission trip in June at a cost to us of around five thousand dollars, no bake or yard sales, no letters sent out to help with our cost. We are going to serve with a loving and generous heart as I hope both of them are. Thanks. Jamie.
