How should we expect this steel to perform? Where does it fall in the grand scheme of things?

It held the edge about 10 percent better.
It was a breeze to resharpen also.
One of the purposes of this steel choice was not only price point in production, but when a neck knife is hanging around your neck, it is a high moisture area of your body. As stated above it has great stain resistance."

It performs good for this type of knife IMHO!

We need PHILIP GIBBS ON THIS ONE!!!!!!!

420HC:

C 0.42
Mn 0.42
P 0.019
S 0.002
Si 0.49
Cr 12.69

Hardenability: to Rc58

Above data is not in ranges as it is from the Heat Analysis of the stock intended for the Arclite.

I cannot comment with same degree of accuracy on the J2, so I shall resist the temptation to bore you with my opinions!

I will say that when it is "Cooked Well" it is an excellent blankable stainless blade steel, & we have a couple of outstanding chefs here!!

Thanks Mr. Gibbs and Darrel.

Any idea what the as tempered hardness is likely to be for the Arc Lite?

I have a CPM S90V Arc Lite, and I am very interested in comparing the two versions in the near future. Should be enlightening.
